does it have an alarm? (sensors on the pillars and red LED on the gearstick surround), Locking wheel nuts and window etching? If not its probably an import, loads of them were
Low mileage 1.6 16v k4m is a straight swap as they are virtually identical. Or a 2.0 f4r but engines are getting pricey unless you go for one of the 140hp variants from the laguna
im on my 4th mk3 RS, every time i get rid of one i say NO MORE, absolute money pits. My current 197 has almost bankrupt me and I'm in to deep to get out so im putting up with it, one the right day on the right road its unbeatable, to live with its a nightmare.
Its been too cold on my days off to work on any of the cars, i did go out the other day to do some work but was met with this and quicky thought, naaaaa
few days later, its a bit milder and a few deliveries had arrived!!!
Sits quite well, hopefully it will settle a little more at the...
Transmech clutches are garbage that's probably part of the problem, your right that the bite point is high on them but not right at the top of the pedal travel as your experiencing.
My mrs has a diesel mk5 clio and the lane assist detects puddles in the middle of the road (where the grooves are from years of traffic passing on the same spot) as a white line and throws the car at the kerb. It stays deactivated now! properly dangerous!
The short answer is, the DCI is massively more economical but costs a lot more to fix when they go wrong, effectively writes the car off when/if it fails. - But it may go for 10 years and 100k without failing! but they are getting old now.
1.4 16v will probably do 40-45mpg in comparison to...
you have already hit the nail on the head, engine swap is the only real solution and its not worth while when you can just buy a 197 which is a lot more than just a more powerful engine, the chassis setup is night and day.
You would have been better buying the 1.2 turbo if you want tuning...
I use brembo HC discs, Mintex 1144s and from cold in terms of a road pad they are absolutely fine, and with a bit of heat in them they are fantastic!
Ive never done any track days on them but for fast road work they are brilliant.
Surely the whole point of a group buy is going to a supplier and requesting a discount on a bulk order, and not a manufacturer giving a huge discount on orders for a single brand? Sounds fishy, but I don't use social media so who knows!!
Not been a massive update for the last few weeks, Been plodding away when i get an hour here and there on days off! Its back on its wheels, everything's wired in, just got the fuel lines to swap, exhaust to fit and a final top up of the fluids and it should run!
Waiting on an autodoc...

I know times are tough but you joined a forum to make £1.99 minus eBay fees trying to sell radio codes to members,
last time i done mine it got head and shoulders, scrubbed with a paint brush and rinsed in the shower, just make sure its proper dry before you put it back together lol
as above, mine have usually had one or more plugs that don't work and never notice until the weather gets proper cold, but they still start ok so I usually just leave them lol
Its not a bad job if you have experience doing similar types of jobs, as said above, just work thought it a step at a time, remember drain the gearbox oil before you remove the passengers side drive shaft as it will empty its self!!
If your doing it on the deck in your garage, give yourself 2...
This used to be the case and I would assume they probably still use the "library" of maps for older stuff but for new stuff they are just modifying a tom tom map of turkey and flashing that on.
Flat out today, I start a new job tomorrow which is going to write off most of my free time so I set out this morning to get torn into this and get it to a point where I can do an hour here and there when I get time. Not many photos as I was just working away all day but finally the 1.6 is in...
All the parts were here so i got some time on this today. New manifold without a cat (or any cracks!!) good upgrade!
Fitted the bargain £25 clutch!
Got the block all cleaned up and painted, cambelt, water pump and aux belt changed, and everything got a good degrease and clean with a wire...
My gates one failed within 6 months on my 197, i fitted a genuine one from RPD last week but i see they are now showing out of stock, have you contacted them for an estimated date?
