Removing the dash makes no difference on the Mk3's as the heater controls are above the radio. And block you from getting to the top of the radio. On the mk2 removing the dash is a must.

Yes about 5mm, with a bigger gap from where the old unit locking pins are.

Welcome to the CLUB!!!! They don't last long on all Clio's the shocks are a common proble after a while. Could be the exhaust knocking the rear axle. Front strut is it on full lock when your get a problem, if so you need the top washers changed. Try a search for this!
