Service Costs from Renault Dealer - RS 182

Just called up the Renault dealer today to get a quote for a few things, check out the break down....

My car
- 04 plate @ 34k miles

Work quoted for
- 36k Service = £260
- Cam and Aux belt = £780 (might aswell get cam done at same time)
- Brakes bleed = £76.92
- Coolant changed = £85.86

Total cost = £1202.78

Gonna check out a few more today, but seems an awful lot! What do you think?

its 4 years old, its due a change at 5 or 72k, so would have to change it next year anyways.

to be honest that sounds high but not a cpmplete pisstake - why not get the bread and butter stuff like cooland ant brakes done at a local mechanic (they wont be able to rip you off as its a straight forward job), probably be able to save a bit of cash there. As for the other 2 big jobs, as your car is probably our of the 3 yr warranty, it may be worth getting the whole lot done elsewhere for easily under £1000 unless you are looking to sell it soon and want to keep the FrenSH, even then, no way you'll get that money back.

the 72K service (what you need) includes all the stuff like plugs, brake fluid, filters, all fluids changed, etc etc etc, cambelt all in IIRC is comes to about £900 worth

dont pay over a grand for a service unless you are planning to marry the thing. there are lots of indi places recommend on here from north to south. All will do a better job for less money

check out the K-Tec site - prices for services are better than you'll think and they do the cam belt changes etc.

I got my brake fluid changed at Renault last month for £29.99 special offer. Normally £39.99?

Today, I've just had my cambelt, aux belt, all the tensioners and rollers and the water pump changed (as a precaution) for £655 at a local Renault specialists in Newcastle - TW & S Barker. Car is Nov 2003 172 on 49k.

I got my 36k service done in Oct 2006 at Renault along with the aux belt (but minus the rollers etc) for £270 (providing my own oil though - saving about £30 as they charge £70 for oil).

And I too got quoted £85 from Renault for a coolant change.

Yep, expensive cars.

I think a lot of people are gettin silly prices for things like coolant changes etc from Renault as they are charging a high hourly labour rate

Would def be worth getting a local mechanic to bleed the brakes and change the coolant etc

Or don't do it all at once break the coolant and brake fluid changes up and do them a few months apart

I was £550 for aux and cambelt change by a Renault Stealer as not a lot of garages up her would touch it

And we have no independant renault garages arund

where abouts in hampshire are you ? have a mate that works at a renault dealer that will probably do it for you. does lots of his own stuff and has done lots of these , will only use genuine renault parts though.

Buy a Haynes manual and do the coolant changes yourself....save a fortune and learn something also.If you think its beyond you ask someone who knows a bit about cars to give you a hand.And theres plenty of helpful peeps on here who'll give advice.

still tho. i had a quote which was half the price of ren-tech but i still travelled 200miles for them. Nothing but positive feedback from that place and have heard of few garages underestimating the level of work and competence required.

my friend had a 172 and other renaults and he did not like there service,if you want to go somewhere decent go to morego 01280700700,have been going there since 91,many people go there after botched jobs,just trying to give you advice.dont really trust many garages but they are good or mark fish

The cambelt and the aux belt part numbers on your invoice are different to mine thats maybe why its cheaper :S
