strange question / silly question.... Plastic style wingnut on gearbox, should this be easily removed by hand or should i be using some specific tool to remove it? Car in question is a qashqai, but i imagine the question relates to all cars as I believe they all have this type bolt.

This is whats happened! Just in the middle of doing it now. Or trying to lol... Theres a small pipe part too which was still on the turbo. Any ideas? Like a plastic ring.

I started doing it myself last year on the 1.2 and dci, but the 182 had the belts done so it didnt need servicing again until now. It really is so easy, saves you a load of money but also lets you know your using the best parts / oil. Cheers mate i will do.

85k, have ownded since 2008 when it was on 22k. Will only increase a few hundred miles a year now, as i have a diesel daily.

I get your point, but It has had many miles and memories made in it already over the 9 years i have owned it. 1k miles a month commute to then leave stood in a public car park is more of a shame to me.

Ah i see. Yes, i realised that needed to be disconected to stop the power supply.

What do you mean by shorting worse? Do ypu think the water would have caused any further damage?

I did wonder that but couldnt think of anything else to do. I think disconecting the battery massively helped stop it continuing.

Will it need a full aux kit or just the belt do you know?

Couldnt believe it. If i hadnt got the bucket and hose ready first before I moved the car it would have been up in flames!
