Why not pilot sport 4s?

I would get sachs dampers personally and enjoy it

Im sure ps4's start in 17" ?

I dont want to waste money on it with something that isnt essential. The standard suspension feels great and really compfy after years of being low and bumpy.

The 182 has been replaced with Dci 65...

Due to a change in circumstances and needing to use my own car for work I needed something that would be cost effective. Im travelling 50 miles dail and sometimes more so it isnt practical to use renaultsport for this IMO.

I had been looking for weeks with nothing coming up close by. Until a few weeks back when I spotted a low mileage (89k, but this is low for a 12 year old car and its a diesel anyway) 20 mile away from me. I went to view it the next morning and brought it home with me. It needed a few things doing to it which has added up the cost already paid for the car itself, but at least I know what has been done and that its been done properly.

Since getting it, I have completed the following;
Service, including oil, oil filter, air filter, pollen filter and fuel filter
Front wheel bearings
Front discs and pads
Wipers
Car mats
Headlight restoration kit
Exhaust mount
New number plates

My long term plan since day one of owning was to keep the 182 forever. And this remains the plan...

The need for a new daily helps put this plan in place as it means im no longer using the 182 so the mileage wont massively increase.

I will continue to maintain the 182, as I always have.

The rear cup spoiler brake light stopped working so I had ordered a new one from Renault and fitted this yesterday. The old one was filthy underneath and the connections corroded which must be why it had stopped working. While i was fitting the new one, I cleaned the whole area and retaped the wiring loom.

I also managed to pick up a brand new set of genuine Renault rear lights for a bargain which are going away with the rest of my stored items for the future.

Hope none of you thought the 182 had been completely swapped by the Dci... :)

It has been ages since I updated the thread so thought I would bring it up to date....

Back in October last year I decided to stop using the 182 completely (bought the dci above for daily use) to keep the miles down, as my intention is to never sell it. The past few years I have only been doing around 3k a year anyway, but wanted to keep it as low as possible as it was approaching the mid 80k mark. As I wasnt going to use it I decided to uninsure and sorn it. I knew I would need to keep it running so every week started it on the drive and ocasionally drove to the end of my drive and back, but that was it. Ater a few months of doing this, i noticed it struggling to start first time. The battery and stop light would flash on and off, but I assumed this was just the battery on its way out / needing a good charge. I fitted a brand new battery, but this didnt solve it so I knew it must be related to the alternator.

6 months later at the end of March, it was a nice day so i decided to move the car off the drive and was it (had just had the drive block paved so we can fit all 3 cars on easily). While washing the wheels I could smell burning but assumed it was someone starting the bbq up due to the nice weather. I then noticed what I initially thought was steam coming from the bonnet / grill. Then realising it was too warm for it to be steam, combined with the stronger smell of smoke I knew it was the clio! I opened the bonnet and the alternator was on fire! Luckily i have always kept a spanner in the glove box to disconect the battery ever since i had the omp wheel fitted years ago. I had the hose next to me from washing the car so quickly sprayed it onto the alternator. If i hadnt been at the car at that point it could of gone up in flames and destroyed!

A couple weeks later i had it taken away on a trailer to have a brand new genuine alternator and new aux belt fitted.

£360 later it was back and running (working) as normal.

I now realised not driving it causes more problems and ends up costing more in the long run, so I re taxed and insured it.

I now give it a run out once a week to keep everything ticking over and charged!

The clio is now on 85k and will stay at that for a long time until it gradually ticks over to 86k.

I have started to give it a good clean this weekend, and used a clay bar. The last time i clayed it was years ago. Next plan is to get a machine polisher and bring the paint back to perfect condition. I will also be putting 4 PS3's on for the next MOT and i think both rear shockers need replacing.

Shame to see the car not doing alot of mileage, mine does at least 120 miles a day and has 144k still going strong! Don't need the DCi ;)

I get your point, but It has had many miles and memories made in it already over the 9 years i have owned it. 1k miles a month commute to then leave stood in a public car park is more of a shame to me.

Alternator went on mine when I started not using it everyday, not in the dramatic fashion yours did though. Difficult balancing act to keep using it and keeping mileage down.

I serviced the 182 tonight which is the first time I have actually serviced it myself. It had the major service done last March when it was on 81799, so althought this was now 16 months ago, it has only covered 3519 miles. I will be doing a lot less than this each year now, but will make sure it is serviced at least every 12 months.

Only the best oil used as usual, Fuchs pro s 5 40, along with genuine filters. I also replaced the sump plug as it had never been changed before! Another reason why I learnt myself to how to diy service, so i know things have been done properly.

You realised just how easy it is to service it now then, always do my own now and just keep all receipts and take pics during the work to show it was done.. just fitted a GOLD magnetic sump plug to mine

Ever need a hand/tools with anything just gimme a shout on FB or something

I started doing it myself last year on the 1.2 and dci, but the 182 had the belts done so it didnt need servicing again until now. It really is so easy, saves you a load of money but also lets you know your using the best parts / oil. Cheers mate i will do.

I was going to put 4 PS3's on but spotted a set of standard 182 wheels with all new tyres for a bargain so thought it would make sense to buy them and put them on.
I will eventually put PS3's on the turinis at some point and this will give me a chance to give them a good clean up.
In reality, the tyres on these wheels will never wear down anyway at the rate I use it.

I will be doing the rear shocks within the next few weeks as they are definately need doing. I spotted them leaking when putting the wheels on.

Rear shocks were well and truly gone! Replaced with brand new genuine renault 182 cup shocks at a bargain price of £63 from renaultpartsdirect.

What an amazing motor. Love how you've taken care of this the way you have. Just read this from start to finish.
I picked up a BG a few months back and have been putting it back to OEM (+the odd bit) as you put it. Can only hope mine ends up half as nice as yours.

Almost a year since i last updated in here. Time flies....

The 182 passed its MOT a few weeks back on 86980. I only cover around 1k a year now, and that is sinply to keep it running and the fluids moving.
It has just ticked over to 87k

I noticed a front bumper on ebay being sold by a local breakers yard which looked like it had the original cup splitter fitted to it. I had a drive there today and it was the original splitter so bought that, along with a cup spoiler and load of other random parts that were still left on the car. They are now all wrapped up and ready to be stored away with the rest of my parts i have been collecting together for a while now.

When i serviced the clio last year i couldnt get the fuel rail gaurd off and it was a pain removing the oil filter! It only had one bolt on, and i ended up rounding it off during my attempts to remove it. It was also a 13mm and im sure standard are 10mm. It was last took off and put back on by the garage who did my alternator.

Im going to service the car again before the end of the year so wanted to sort this out first. After spending weeks working out what would be the best way / looking for specific tools to remove rounded bolts, i still wasnt any further forwar because of the lack of room to work with around the bolt.

Today, i decided to try and drill out a piece of the guard to get to the bolt, it took me 2 hours but is finally done!

I have damaged one of the bolts on the RS inlet which holds the rail in place. I will see if Renault supply them seperate as it looks like the do come off the inlet.

What a nightmare getting the fuel rail cover off, promising to hear that you should be able to source and replace the damaged stud. Love the fact you are still driving this, I've taken so much inspiration from your thread @Austin-182 for my own BG 182 ?

Thanks Gav, i still say the same that i will never sell this. I have had it 10 years now!

Getting the gaurd off was one of the worst things i have ever done on it. Took me 2 full hours to do but when it finally came off i felt so glad. Yea, hopefully i will be able to get a replacement stud, but even if not, its just an inlet i will need to find which shouldnt be too difficult.

it just unscrews off with a spanner. Genuine part number is 8200584570 . Then its just a flanged M8 Nut, if you want gen its 7703033155 but that will be now be a 13mm head.

Quick question Austin, are you still running the OEM Cup springs? I have Eibach Sportlines fitted at the moment but considering putting the Cup springs back in for sake of comfort.

I am Gav yes. Rear dampers are brand new, but fronts and all springs are original. I love how compfy it is compared the the old coilovers, but i am getting older now and even the exhaust annoys me ha!

I remember back in the day it was yours and Dan's RB that made me want to get my 182. Since then I've had the 182 for 4 years and the 200 for six years!

Yes, i agree with that and also think its quite cool. I love that i still have it! Has always been my plan to keep it...

It hasnt been my daily for over 2 years now. I have had a mk2 clio dci and now onto a qashqai dci as my daily which i actually love to drive as its so conpfy.

All of the service parts I ordered arrived so I decided to do the service today... what a pain it was taking 6 hours before i finally got it done...

Car jacked up and everything ready, thought it would really easy with not having the fuel rail in the way anymore...

I have only covered 1763 miles since it was last serviced in July last year, but as that was 15 months ago i wanted to refresh everything, regardless of the little mileage covered.

All started well, and as expected, the oil still looked decent...

I knew the air filter would still look good, but when i opened the airbox it still looked brand new and could of easily got another year out of it. As i had ordered a new filter, i thought i might aswel change it anyway, and next time i will just do the oil filter.

This is when the fun started! While trying to remove the oil filter i ended up snapping the oil pressure sensor. This is what took so long, as i have been ringing and driving around trying to find one. I managed to get one ordered and was told it wiuld be on the lat delivery of the day.

While i was waiting for this, i decided i would give my ebay special machine pads a go. You use them with a drill...
They actually did a decent job. I will get a proper machine at some point.

The dark was now setting in and i picked up the oil pressure sensor, and managed to get it on along with the oil filter and oil in.

Mileage is now on 87081, and i have just filled the service book which now has a total of 12 stamps in it.
