Sounds like the aux belt as said needs chnaging.
Depned how you go about it it doens't have to be kit car covered as such.
Call renault specialist breakers in accrington (google the number it ends 66 I think) and ask for Matt.
Remember to unplug the batter first for half and hour before hand unless you have the renault computer to lock the airbags even then be careful.
Turn the wheel and you'll find the two bolts holding it in on the back of the wheels.
JC3 130 was the Mk2 phase 1 gearbox. it has a speedo output on it.
JC5 129 was fitted to the cup and the normal 172 full fat phase 2 the cup is a specal box as it has its speedo output on it whereas the normal car uses the abs system.
1. cambelt kit Renault only
2. aux belt Renault only
3. fuel filter No need its good for 150k plus if its the internal type like most are its expensive, the external one more rare only on early cars
4. oil filter Renault only
5. spark plugs Renault only...
Shoulnd't use water for the coolent though anyway.
Unlikly to be cams wearing away as said chnage the oil etc first has the car been serviced with good oil and is one due etc?
What d you mean by timing?
Sounds like they have done the AUX and cambelt the rice should be the giveaway opr the parts list.
AUx belt has to come off to do the cambelt so is chnaged them however Renault might price work up like that saying aux and cambelt as seperate so the correct parts...
Derv often have the strongest boxes in them ie JC3 for the torque only the williams got a 5 spec box the Valver used a 3 type box the 1.2 and 1.4 use the 1 series box.

Its in the tank and not cheap to chnage./
Good for 150k officially.
I'm sure I posted this recinetly
Tigthen all to 20NM
Angle tighten all to 97 degree +-2 degree
3 minutes to wait
Slacken bolts 1 and 2 fully
Tigthen bolts 1 and 2 to 20NM
Angle tigthen 1 and 2 to 97 degree +- 2 degree
Slacken bolts 3, 4, 5, and 6 fully
Tigthen bolts 3, 4, 5, and 6...
DIY them the top mount is quite easy to sort realy.
I don't recomend any of them though they overload the other mounts prematurly and wear components. IF Renault could have made them stronger they would have but they woulnd't have forfilled the requirments that a part should do.
Sent it all all who wanted it I hope
Please note the changing of the cambelt isn't simple.
Trying to change it either
1) without the tools
2) without having the experiance of doing both cambelts and these engines
WILL lead to failure.
Forget all the simples tricks this engine...
because the 65 and 80 boxes are much nicer to use.
The 100 always is absolutly rubish in terms of strengh and longevity ask any dealerships techies how many they have chnaged vs 65 and 80.
You only have to drive them both to know the 80/65 boxes are much better to use (although they are...
Very right although Fk are much better than Gaz stuff IMO.
Most of the time the money spend on suspension mods can be better spent learning to use the stock setup better and there no haslte with insuracne/lack of ground clearance etc.
The cost/hastle of back pain though does have an effect...
Rear ones are quite simple. just remove the disk an get a new bearing pushed in.
The disk migh be worn though so often wort getting new ones at the same time.
