    Another alignment query

The Geo looks fine. What tyres do you have? Are the roads you're testing this on heavily cambered? Try getting in the middle of the road and see if the effect is reduced. Other than that, have you checked trackrods, rack/bushes, balljoints etc. for play?

I bet their margin is a less than £40 on a set they've supplied.

Will 205/50/16 Fit With Lowering Springs?

I doubt you're profile is going to matter too much so long as you have a suitable offset. That said, 205/45/16 should fit with the right offset wheel, as that's the standard size, IIRC?

    Rainsport all season tyres

Take a look at this - http://www.tyrereviews.co.uk/Article/2013-Winter-Tyre-Overview-Braking.htm Taking note of this: That is just a braking test, but the results are worth considering. Here's the most recent all-round review I can find...

    Rainsport all season tyres

My winter tyres will go on the moment day time temps drop to around 10°c and will stay on right through until Spring when they consistently raise above 10°c I have to admit, the snow played some part in my decision to purchase winter tyres - my daily is a RWD Auto, which isn't going anywhere on...

Decent winter tyres v's premium summer tyres

That was what I found when looking around at winter tyres for the merc. 4xConti WinterContact TS850s in 205/55/16 from Ears Motorsport came to £329 I think - absolute bargain. I'm half tempted to find a cheap set for the Clio for some snow rallying :D They look pretty agressive!

    LSD options

The autotests I attend are closer to autocross courses - handbrake isn't rewarding and there is no reversing. I don't think lifting a wheel is likely to be an issue unless I truly nail the suspension setup and we get a particularly tight and bumpy course. I will speak to gripper about it, I...

That thread doesn't answer my question really.

    LSD options

I realise this has been done before, but my question is slightly different to the threads I've found. I think for the money, I've pretty much nailed my options down to the Quaife and Gripper options. My concern is that for slow and tight auto tests, there are reports of the gripper making...

Definitive answer to 172 vs. 172 Cup /182 castor difference?

My point was more the fact that they are almost a degree out from what they should be.

Definitive answer to 172 vs. 172 Cup /182 castor difference?

Just looking at my alignment sheet on my cup packed 182 1°59' one side and 2°19' the other. I guess I ought to check whether it has the correct wishbones fitted, but if not, I I guess I can simply redrill the front hole as Chip has done.

Urgent help key wet alarm won't disable

Well, a trip back to get my other key (that went through the wash years ago) and the car started. I'm guessing the salt water must have killed the transponder chip as well. Does anyone know if you can buy just the replacement PCB for the keyfob?

    172 to R26

There are some better than others. A friend of mine paid £3k for a 7 year old MG ZR160 and the headgasket failed four months after he collected it - the dealer had the car collected from the Isle of Wight the very next day, dropping a courtesy car off at the same time - sorted within a week and...

    172 to R26

Sometimes you get lucky. I'm not sure you'd go to a Casino and gamble £1k away on the same odds, though? How do you reliably determine that an owner is an enthusiast? Surely membership of a forum doesn't determine that. I'd far sooner have consumer rights on my side when I spend £6k+ on a car...

    172 to R26

This is why it's worth spending a few extra £££ to get one from a dealer. You have an absolutely minimum of six months to find any faults/niggles that arise.

172 Gearbox - no drive but speedo going up.

Local chap with a 172 just had his car slip out of gear. Goes back in to gear but no drive, speedo is going up though. Where is the speedo drive in the box? I'm guessing driveshaft or diff, although the car had a new diff a year or so ago.

How have you connected your mid-range components?

It's pretty simple - a multimeter set on continuity is your friend. IIRC, I pulled the multiplug from the door shut, and reconnected it through the door opening to test which was what. I cut the cable a few cm from the plug and extended with another cable to make it easier to work with. This...

How have you connected your mid-range components?

I found the easiest option was to cut the door loom inside the car on each side and then running a new cable from the crossover up to the tweeter. The other option is some very careful drilling of the door multiplug.

172 cup brake compensator valve - cleaning it out

I can't see how it could get blocked, so I'd be guessing that it's broken. I'd be inclined to go for the new one, tbh.

When I bought my Clio, the rears had a lip of about 1.5mm on each side - they were still fine :D
