Argh snapped aux tensioner square hole

I bought some meaty jubilee clips today. Completed in 15 minutes. With the belt already in place, I managed to compress the spring enough to get it bolted up, a few turns off the jubilee clip, it's off and the belt is all done. I honestly cannot see why anyone would do it any other way - I...

Argh snapped aux tensioner square hole

I did mean 3/8, I've never been great with ratchet sizes :p It is indeed the genuine renault belt. So if i slacken the alternator or remove the bottom idler pulley as Mick suggests, they should give me enough to get the spring fixed at the top and will be easy enough to get back in the right...

Argh snapped aux tensioner square hole

It's completely my own fault - In the absense of a proper tool, I put a 1/4 drive extension through the little hole where the headlight usually resides, which prevents you getting the full swing of the tensioner. I'm fuming with myself to be honest after I just had to cough up to replace a 6...

    Those who've gone PE2 -> PS3

What did you think of them compared to the PE2? How did they compare wet and dry? I've heard reports of softer sidewalls - is there any truth to this? I'm anxious to try the PS3 at around £40 a corner cheaper than the best price I can find for PE2s. Can we limit this thread to objective (and...

Anyone have a good gearbox laying around

I'm trying to establish whether my old diff is actually the issue in the gearbox I have removed. Could you turn the diff while the box is in neutral and tell me whether there is a slight clicking noise or if it is completely smooth and silent? Could be a silly question, but someone has...

How is the std 182 airbox supposed to be mounted?

There is indeed a rubber grommet with a steel dowel through the middle of it. The grommet slots in to the airbox mounting front and back of it and then bolt to brackets attached to the ECU and the front of the support bar that runs past the battery.

    Changing Gearbox

Yes, the place it appears to be coming from is aux belt driven and just to the right of what I think is the crank driven aux pulley? The belt isn't wet mind, it just appears to be a dribble from up underneath the pulley. I don't suppose it could really be anything else, could it Fred? I'm...

    DTE/DTUK Pedalbox

I'm pretty sure all these do is amplify the signal from the throttle switch. Ie. what used to be 10% throttle, will now be 20% (just an example, but you get my drift).

    Changing Gearbox

Dropping the whole subframe was considered, but it looked like there was plenty of space this way. I found the box went back in quite easily to be fair - but we were incredibly lucky throughout and everything went smoothly apart from one of the rear subframe nuts spinning. The rack was...

    Changing Gearbox

All done - the wing crane did the trick in the end - we just used the metal tabs as supports. So much mess for a gearbox though :/

    Changing Gearbox

You knew exactly what I meant :P I won't be working on the floor, so I'm not sure how much use a trolley jack will be :/ I'm working in someone else's workshop tomorrow too, so I'm not too sure there is a working gearbox jack.

    Changing Gearbox

When removing the subframe, how did you support the engine? I'm guessing an engine brace is a no go with plastic wings?

Are there any particular tools I'll need for the job, beyond the basics?

    Changing Gearbox

Hi, I'm tasked with changing the gearbox in my Clio tomorrow. Can anyone provide any pointers, or their experience of doing it? I've heard conflicting stories regarding the removal - one claiming the whole subframe needs to be dropped to do it, another claiming you can drop it on one side and...

    Another cambelt thread omg

That £380 was for the parts. I did the job myself.

    Another cambelt thread omg

I think I spent £380 in the end on the Cambelt, Auxbelt and De-phaser pulley. I think the forum specialists ask around £640ish? Irrelevant anyway - they are all too much of a pain to get to for me.

    Another cambelt thread omg

I did my belts and de-phaser pulley with a pattern cam timing tool only in the end. The bolt for the crank timing pin rounded and the pulley locking tool off eBay turned out to be the wrong one. Timing was checked and double checked and all fine. Car still pulls just as well, and is still...

Help me confirm my gearbox diagnosis.

Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

Help me confirm my gearbox diagnosis.

Yes, I wanted to rule out driveshafts before ordering a new gearbox. Is there anyway to test this?

Help me confirm my gearbox diagnosis.

I made a video (well, the sound is the far more important part) of my car making the noise which has been diagnosed as diff bearings. I was hoping someone has had the same issue and can confirm (or deny) this. Video: 5JRBsD1uw70

Those of you that have broken RS Clios

I can't sell mine for £3200 - no one wants a high mileage Renault, much less a sporty one. The box is only £175, but with shipping its up to £225 and then a day of skinned knuckles and swearing. If I could achieve £3k by breaking, I'd do it.

Those of you that have broken RS Clios

How much success did you have? Was there much left at the end? Excluding aftermarket bits, can you give an idea of what you made from it? How much of your stuff was shipped and how much collected in person? My Clio is for sale, and after the gearbox needs replacing I'm contemplating whether...

    1*2 Gearbox oil confusion.. 75w80 or 75w90 ???

    Autodata lists 75w80 GL4 iirc :)

    Gearbox rebuid

I guess I'll see when the box comes out. I had it up on the ramp today and it's almost certainly coming from the gearbox area, and was only present when the car was in gear. What I think I want to do is buy a second hand box, swap it over, make an attempt at replacing whatever is broken in my...

    Gearbox rebuid

I think the diff is noisy, I'm getting a very fast but soft knocking which goes away out of drive. Can bearings be sourced easily? Or is it better to just find another box from a breaker?

    mikeh's silver 182 FF

Whilst I appreciate their contributions to the Forum, I think a lot of it is down to the Specialists on here telling horror stories and then the rest of the forum regurgitating this information without actually understanding it. I met a lot of cynicism on another forum I frequent, telling me...

    mikeh's silver 182 FF

My car got the Gtechniq treatment yesterday; Cleaned, clayed, a couple of scratches wet sanded, these and a few lighter bits were done with P1 and Menz compounding pad, then the rest of the car was done with P1 and Menz finishing pad (it was pretty good from last time, to be fair). All topped...
