is this the same as the Ph2 wheel?
i'd thought about trying this as well, but it's a bit of a leap of faith
interested in the pics; not sure about the sound of the colour though

you can't see them very well in that but they're provided with a couple of washers. pinch some from VolksWagen!
apart from whilst parking, my top mounts also rattle whilst cornering on uneven road surfaces - could be top mounts
have you checked that the caliper on that wheel is free from excessive movement (compare with other side)? the sliders can wear and could (i'm guessing) cause a knocking
there are bushes that locate the beam, and the beam itself has a reputation for bending easily
hopefully it's the dampers at fault. even if there isn't sign of leakage, you can check if they've been leaking by comparing their travel with new dampers (ones that have leaked won't compress as far...
you're probably right and i don't fancy spending £40+ on changing it just now, but it can't hurt at some later point
irony is that my 200k 205GTi box felt much nicer to use than the Renault's, even when it only had the 30k i bought it with on it
ed. wizard - thanks; the engine mounts are all...
thanks for the thoughts
TRT's already a GL5 spec oil and i wasn't anticipating a difference, but may just try it anyway
same as you, Caister; i think i'm just going to have to be mindful (drive around it) and wait to see if/how it worsens - certainly doesn't justify another rebuild at the...
i don't know much at all about gearboxes but would read up or ask someone who does - bearings, synchros, etc
you could ask for some sort of itemised bill of the parts they've replaced? this is the problem with having anything reconditioned - you don't know what they have and haven't renewed -...
i think someone else had a similar problem recently and found that it was sticky caliper pistons
if so, it may be possible to clean them up and free them off
it's road legal. my thought was that, if it's used on the road, it's a road car; if it's being used on track, it's a track car
not read it but i think Pistonheads got all excited about the road car thing
it's an achievement and it's British. that'll do!
i've got TRT in it at the moment, but was thinking of trying TRX, or maybe the Castrol stuff
the people who rebuilt it refilled it with ATF () and changing it for TRT helped quieten it down a fair bit (the ATF transmitted noticeable gear chatter)
the synchro thing's not tragic and...
thanks chaps. i suspect the third gear synchro wasn't actually replaced when it was rebuilt. it's had a recent gear oil change, but i might do it again for another spec oil, to see if that helps
it is what it is - i'm wondering how the problem has progressed in other's cars
it's a minor shame about the quality, but that's an interesting vid. he almost bins it on the very first corner!
be incredible if the Caparo lives up to that claim
i think the 182 Cup's springs are marked red/white (someone would have to confirm)
aren't they only 3mm lower, though? or is that the 172/Cup difference?
i've noticed that the severity of the crunch when shifting into 3rd from peak rpms in 2nd has recently worsened in my gearbox
having had a little play, i've also noticed that i can drive around it by short-shifting (at, say, 50-55, instead of 60)
my question is, will the crunching make its...
no pictures, but there's a drain plug at the back of the gearbox (need a new copper seal), and you refill it via the plastic 'wingnut' on the front of the gearbox (behind the radiator - need to remove airbox). there's a separate seal behind this wingnut, but should be OK to reuse
they take 3L...
do they have the same ECU mounting as the RS models? if it does and it's snapped, it could be as simple as that
the banging, though, makes it seem more likely to be the engine mounts
just need to wipe it out (shouldn't be that gummed up really) - TBs don't pass fuel (unlike carbs), so you don't want to get it too wet incase it interferes with the electronics/etc
you can actually buy TB cleaner
you could use petrol; carb cleaner's sold in aerosols so that it can be sprayed into the carb whilst the engine's running - don't need to do that if you're taking the TB off and wiping it out:)
