there is no point in trying anything else, there is nothing wrong with your connection, it is your isp or your exchange where the problem lays, whether that be contention or deliberate shaping.

ah, then i predict traffic shaping is the issue.

nowt wrong with practically 6mb. sounds like contention either at your exchange or within your isp's hardware/centrals, or perhaps it's just traffic shaping at a particular time. what provider is it?
