Don't look in the best condition, you could buy another and fit it. Or you could buy another, fill it with tiger seal and fit that. Or I've seen some people take the rubber out of their existing mount and cable tie a powerflex hanger in there.
Got the cat back today welded up. My friend had some trouble with the welding with the stainless pipe being thin (1.5mm) and the cat being mild steel, but it's on there now. If you are thinking about doing this I would suggest slightly thicker pipe or a mild steel pipe instead of stainless...
The material is laser sintered nylon so it is both strong and has some slight flex i.e. not brittle. I'll keep an eye on their condition but based on first impressions of this material I don't foresee a problem.
Some info from the printer on the material -...
I, as I imagine many Oz F1 owners are, was very frustrated at the lack of centre caps available for my wheels. All I could find were caps for sale with snapped clips, wrong sized caps on eBay, or people selling good ones for £20 a go!
I wanted to come up with a solution, I had looked in to...
So I managed to get hold of a second hand cat and set about chopping last night. I cut the standard outlet off just before the weld and then put a couple of notches down each side to allow the bigger diameter pipe to sit flush. First impressions are good, looks a nice fit and will seal well...
Fitted a new rubber strip to the slam panel which I got in the group buy and cleaned my throttle body which was filthy!
Car now idles a lot better and has stopped cutting out when manouvering.
Can someone explain how a fixed beam can change the camber of the wheels depending on the height? As far as I understand the wheels are fixed rigidly to the beam and the beam also has fixed geometry.
I understand camber changes on the front due to height but not the back?
Used that originally, still didn't hold up. I'm sick of temporary repairs now it's about time I fixed it once and for all. I've ordered a 500mm length of 63.5mm tube so will start on this soon.
Anybody done this? I've read the threads about modding the 182 cat with a 2.5" pipe but nothing on the 172 cat.
The flange on my cat is warped in the middle so blows like a good 'un, currently caked in exhaust putty but it cracks off and leaks again after a week or so.
Thinking of cutting off...
Just something I've noticed this morning, it seems after it has rained the knock disappears for a while, I don't know if this is just coincidence of if it could genuinely affect something.
I replaced the ball joints on both sides and the other side is fine so I assume they are the right ones. I'll try tightening the pinch bolt on the ball joint see if that helps. May be time for powerflex wishbone bushes.
Thanks for the suggestions.
Ever since I bought my car (30k miles ago) I've had this knock. It happens when I brake, usually just as I'm about to come to a stop, one single knock from the front drivers side. It feels like something is loaded up as I pull away and then released when I brake, for example once the knock has...
I forgot to say, the old cam belt and pulleys still look in incredible condition! Kind of makes you sad you just paid to have them changed. But I guess they can look great on the outside but still be weakened and snap.
OK so I guess this will be the final update to the thread. I picked the car up this evening and it seems they have done a good job. Makes good power still and no funny noises so I'm pleased with that.
They gave me all of the old parts and to my surprise there was an aux belt tensioner and...
Don't get me wrong if I was close to any of you guys I'd much rather give you my car to work on, it just seems all the well regarded specialists are hundreds of miles from me.
Seems to be a lack of specialists in the north east who could also offer me a courtesy car, and the price wasn't as high as expected (I know its still more than an indi). Plus if the job was to go wrong I feel I'd have more comeback with a main dealer than a local indi. Time will tell I suppose...
