As some may know, over the past few days I have tackled a number of mid sized jobs on my car, most of which would have been impossible without the help of you guys on here.
To name but a few:
Fred,
Adam Hodgkinson,
Fubar,
Vinny,
RiceRocket,
Andy905,
S22JGS,
Tom,
And any I may have missed...
As well as fitting my phase 1 airbox this week, I have also replaced the gear stick unit with this little item:
It's so much nicer to use, even if it is a little cold on a morning.
Right, i'm going to give the car a good going over tomorrow so I need a little expert input. I will be blitzing it with a rotary but need help with the process and the gaps below filling or steps adding.
Rinse with Karcher,
Wash using 2 bucket method,
Clay,
Wash again,
Polish using SRP...
After 3 days of fettling, the car is nearly back on it's wheels. One of my last jobs was to fit my phase 1 172 airbox complete with feeds and Pipercross filter.
The entire cost of the little project stands me at £39.43 including airbox, filter, pikey aluminium support strap and 63mm air feed...
In the ongoing saga that it is the mechanical overhall of the Silver 1.2 Trophy (or 172 as it's better known), as the third day draws ever nearer I have come across another little issue.
I was refitting the NSF caliper after replacing the discs and pads. I had already noticed that the wear on...
I've managed to undo the rear brake hoses but I now can't see any way of removing them and refitting the Goodridge items.
Do they simply cable tie to the originals or are the originals removeable?
I have my phase 1 172 air box and have my panel filter on the way, i'm collecting my CAF tomorrow so should be ready to go.
My question is how should I set up the new air feeds?
As the phase 1 box has two inlets running parallel, I had thought of running a length of CAF from what would be...
I've just been thinking about how much I'm spending on the car at the moment and how I just buy things as and when they come up. I should budget but I don't.
How does everyone else do it?
I've managed to refit two new manifold to cat' bolts onto my 172.
I have only tightened one so far but it still spins in its collar, not freely but it still moves with a socket. Does this sound right as I had an issue like this last time around.
Not mine but I know they are sought after:

I have just picked up my manifold seal kit but want to ensure I fit everything correctly as I am guessing I got it wrong last time.
I have a Bolt, a large collar which fits around the bolt head I think, a 2nd flatter collar a silver washer which looks as if it would fit inside the flatter...
I stuck a wanted ad up mate and Adam Hodgkinson came up with the goods.
I think whiteley and Martin89 are breaking a couple of 1.2's, any gear stick unit will fit so they should have one available.
As for fitment, that is one of next weeks jobs but I understand you have to remove the cat', good...
I'm overhauling the brakes on the bullet next week and will be replacing the brake fluid as part of the job as the pedal is becoming rather mushy.
I seem to have the figure of 4.8l capacity in my mind and DOT 4 fluid, is this correct?
I went to the stealers this afternoon to order a dog bone mount and manifold to ca' seal kit.
Part number 8200103802 - 172 dog bone - 33.07 + VAT, not too bad I suppose.
Part number 6000073668 - 172 manifold to cat' seal kit - 31.11 + VAT!!!! It consits of 2 bolts, 2 springs and a couple of...
I'm planning on ordering a new dog bone mount tomorrow but need to know wether they come ready to fit from the stealers?
Are Renault the best place to buy from or is there anyone cheaper?
Had a very lucky escape this evening. I was on my way back home with my sister in the car after snapping a pot hole my girlfriend hit earlier today. I approached a large motorway junction roundabout at about 40mph, saw there was nothing coming so turned onto the roundabout. As I did so the...
As above, I know the dog bone mount is a fairly common request but the forum crashes every time I use search.
I also need the manifold to Cat fixing bolts/kit part number as mine is rattling like a bar steward.
can these parts be bought from GSF or are they dealer only? Any rough costs...
As above. I need to remove the section of dash which surround the gear lever and incorporates the ash tray etc. I can't see how it would come free.
I then need to remove the entire gear lever mechanism.
Any ideas?
I thought this may interest some of you guys. I have just measured the surface area of each running right into the corners of each visible filter element.
Phase 1: 866.25 square cm
Phase 2: 312.375 square cm
That means that the phase 1 filter is approximately 2.8 larger in surface area...
I got hold of a phase 1 172 airbox last week and have just been playing around with fitment and feed options.
I currently have 1 76mm feed running from the base of my wheel arch liner to my phase 2 air box but fancy 2 70mm feeds running to the same place.
Where do you guys run your...
I bought a phase 1 172 airbox from Fleabay the other day for a bargainous £9.70 delivered. I thought i'd give it a crack at that price.
What is the best value filter for this airbox and where do you guys advise I get it from? I've check MSW and they seem relatively expensive.
Needs to go as we currently have 6 cars.

I should hopefully have a phase 1 172 gear knob on the way next week but I don't want to start cutting into my original item. My thought was that I could change the whole stick and then transfer back come sale time.
Can the stick itself be disconnected somewhere around the knuckle or do I...
After washing the car today, I have realised just how shagged the wheels are. I need a little inspiration in the colour department. I want to 'grey' it up a little but not follow the anthracite trend.
Could someone PS my car with varying shades of grey from light through anthracite to...
