The wiring is standard they made an arse of it and tried to say it's non standard to cover themselves.
It's a re-trimmed 172 wheel with original airbag, no resistors / after market wheels or anything like that.
I'm not sure that that's 100% the case, I agree it's a possibility but have read a few reports of rotary switch failure where there is no mention of the traction light. Plus the diagnostics highlighted the rotary switch apparently.
Thanks Steve,
I'm going to have zero time to look at this due to work commitments, the 'specialist' garage won't be getting my business ever again as they have tried to cover themselves saying the wiring was non standard. So I've bit the bullet and booked it in to Renault to sort out the mess...
Replaced both tie rods on mine last year made a big difference tightening everything up, at this years MOT the offside track rod end was an advisory so I'm getting it done and a laser alignment in a couple of weeks. Basically at the moment there's excessive play in the steering and it wanders if...
Noticed that the steering lock doesn't seem to be functioning correctly and the lights go out initially then come back on a few seconds later as if its the result of an ecu test sequence.
Sound like rotary switch / slip ring / squib fault?
I've searched through 8 years of posts and can't find anything conclusive so starting a thread.
I recently had my oem mk2 ph2 172 steering wheel replaced with a re-trimmed oem wheel, on collecting the car from the local so called 'specialist' the airbag and serv lights were on.
I immediately...

I love the styling of them, doubt I'll ever own another one now. Been there done that, the 106gti moved small hatches on, same power as a 1.9 205gti but much faster from my experience.
Out of the box the 1.6 gti handling was phenomenal, the 1.9 required a bit more caution.
But they are now (pretty much) at least 20 years old and things have moved on in terms of safety, speed, cost and so on but not in terms of raw feel and handling.
When I fitted my konis and eibachs to...
yes. cups are all racing blue or inferno (orangey) but cup packs were an option also so if it has climate control and leather seats it's not a 182 cup.
R26 is best of the RS Megane bunch as it has an LSD, it's not just a sticker job. There's a Megane F1 (blue or black) and it doesn't have an LSD but it does have cup goodness but the first Megane to gain cup chassis was the Trophy, there's a cracking Megane Trophy for sale on here just now FYI
