no it won't fit because the 197 wheel fitment is different to the other clio3s.
also, where would you put it? theres the diffuser on the 197 so u'd have to put it in the boot.
however, i have heard that the Megane 225/R26 spare wheel will actually fit.
^^^^
have u thought abt a yozzasport exhaust darren, heard one the other day and it gives the 197 a nice rumble when manouvering at low speeds. Kinda reminded me of a V8 merc amg.
contemplating one myself, but worried it'll make motorway drivin unbearable.
when u in the upper reaches of the rev ranges it sounds incredible.
Personally, i'd like a bit more throatiness lower down, but its good for some days when u can drive it normally when u not in the mood. then, when u want to properly drive it, it sounds like proper high reving race car.
i...
i have a R27...
PROS:
Awesome brakes, soooo much grip, brilliant damping, a jekyll and hyde engine, nice interior, cool recaros, oh and the looks.
cons:
aweful fuel economy (abt 26mpg average), fraying recaro seats, kangarooing when engine is cold, paintwork very suseptible to stonechips.
you can order them from the parts dept at a renault dealer.
someone should be able to tell u the part number.
be warned though, on close inspection, they look pretty naff. the black "carbon look" bits on each end look very chepa and tacky.
thats what i'm thinking/hoping.
cheers for the replies guys.
will take the battery cover off to have a check underneath when its light tomorrow.
but i'd be surprised that much salt can get into the engine bay. surely that would lead to premature rotting of components in the future right?
Hi guys, did a search but couldn't find anything relevant...
jus opened up the engine bay of my 197 and noticed a load of crap that was on the battery cover.
It kinda looks like when u get liquid sugar thats dried and crystalised. It was all over in small patches. Strange thing is, it was...
gotta say, lookin a some of prices of is200s now, it is a lot of car for the money.
reliability, decent badge, and pretty comfortable, think i might pick one up myself.
And as for them falling apart they come with warrenty.....your spine does not!
All well and good, but i've heard of people been waiting 4 months for new Recaro seat covers!
But i do agree with you, one in, they are very comfortable. Though the standard seats seem just as good though.
i used to think the same, though having lived with them for 7 months, i've chnaged my mind!
The fabric frays easily, the seat rattles, and old relatives have trouble getting in! :rasp:
if you're doin 4 trackdays, i'd seriously consider the r27 then tbh.
i did one in my r27, and the instructors were using standard 197s. the standard 197 just frustrated me a bit after a while, and i was glad i had the r27 which was more planted and fun on track.
i only do one or two...
i agree with you about the seats... the recaros are way over-rated and seem to fall apart after a while.
The standard 197 has brilliant damping, and whilst the R27 can get a bit crashy on certain roads, having driven both i think that when you're really pushing on the r27 starts to make sense...
Another point to mention is that the MK5 Golf GTI might have been a DSG one which means perfect upshifts every time in sport mode!
You'd have had to be on your A-game with the gear changes to beat him.
Technically 197s are much better cars.... but they do feel like they've lost a bit of rawness and character compared to the 182s.
Point to point, i reckon a 197 might just pip it because of the cornering speeds and brakes... but if u asked me which is more fun.... i might be inclined to say a 182.
Neither.
I think all the 197 bits just look like naff pieces of black plastic with a crappy "carbon-look" about them.
The spliiter gives the 197 a desperate dan style chin, and the whilst the spoiler looks cool on the Cup Race cars, it has more than a whiff of max power on the road.
Just...
lol. stop living in a dream world.
i've seen three 197s on rollers and they all made at least 189bhp.
if u stil don't believe me, then juct check any copy of Evo and look at the lap times.
if they're so slow, why does an R27 197 lap the Bedford circuit nearly 2 seconds quicker than a 182 CUP??
think you'll find thats an urban myth.
a 197 can brake harder and grip faster than a 182, and even in a straight line the difference is negligible. Point to point, a 197 is just as quick if not quicker.
In fact, in the wet, you struggle to keep up with a 197.
