The STOP and SERV lights came on for me. With regards to the revs, they just lock at 2000 rpm although you can rev it above that but it just dies to 2000 rpm again.

Sounds like "get me home" mode its in. When my car was locked at 2000 revs, it was the coolant temp sensor that had failed - i never got a metallic bang though? Get it to a dealer asap.
