Ive heard of a few cases where people have taken their 172 with this problem and to help all they did was to increase the idle speed in the ECU very slightly. Mine does it, it bothered me at first but now Ive got used to it.

Trouble is, dont really want to carry a trolly jack round with me. Might see if theyll do me a swap for a pin type one next time Im in.

Went to jack the car up using the original jack for the first time. Im convinced that the jack is the wrong sort, the top is almost flat with sort of chamfered sides if that makes sense. It looked very unstable when positioned under the jacking point (which has a hole there), I know some 172...

Jon, I have a load of photos I found on the internet of the Dieppe factory and there are loads showing the Mk2 172 being built.

The Renaultsport factory in Dieppe builds all the 172s (now 182s) and will be building the new Renaultsport Megane.

Whats this new digital display located between the conventional dials they are talking about, not heard it mentioned anywhere else?

Have exactly the same thing on my 172. I noticed it got worse when I was stuck in heavy traffic in the hottest part of the summer. Maybe, just things expanding as they get hot and becoming a bit tighter?

Took a look tonight, there is one bulb that is fixed to the side of the lighter that lights up both the lighter and the ashtray. Looks like the bulb is contained in a grey plastic holder that appears to clip into place.

Boll*cks, my exhaust has started blowing from somewhere, gotta get it up on the ramps. Started blowing initially after they fitted the new centre section from the joint with the rear section. They re-fitted the joining sleeve and all was well for 4 months, just hope its that again!

Maybe Ive got some special contenental tyres or something? But seriously, I do drive the car hard and Im really surprised they have lasted this long. Recon Ill get a couple more thousand miles before they need changing.

Do 60 miles a day on the M1 in my 172, have 39/33 as the manual recommends and the tyres are lasting remarkabley well. Now done 30,000 on the original tyres with tread still left!

Rhys, before they replaced my centre section, the dealer tried replacing the heat shield bolts with shorter ones as they thought they were touching the body. Maybe worth a look?

This is a very common problem on 172s. Get them to replace the mid section of the exhaust, worked for me and a lot of other people.

My climate control was playing up, changing the air direction buttons wasnt changing the airflow. Ended up having a new climate control computer which sorted it.
