Sounds like a weird vibrating noise coming from the front of the exhaust probably near the manifold. Its worst at low revs when the car is nearly labouring, and when you change gear or lift off the accelerator it makes a clonking sound. Anyone have any ideas what it could be? its getting checked...
Personally I wouldnt go for the cup - for the small performance gains you lose most of the luxuries you have which on a 40 mile trip you will probably miss.
Youll definitely notice a huge improvement with handling, and when your putting your foot down completely the clio will be a fair bit faster but if you're not using the gearbox youll find its quite a bit harder to make progress.
Definitely makes more sense round town though.
This is exactly what I wanted to post.
The 182 / 172 is seemingly more fun to drive - you buy a hot hatch for the fun of driving it not a solid feel or more gadgets.
If I drive the car somewhere and then turn the engine off for 5-10 mins to go out of the car, and then return to the car and drive off, even though the engine is still showing that its fully warm, the car will only rev to 6900 before it hits the limiter, instead of over 7000?
What could this be?
Compared to a 172 they feel a bit underpowered - slightly less power as well as having an extra 200 ish KGs of weight to pull around.
Never driven one though just been a passenger so cant comment.
My apex -40mm springs came today and I was wondering how hard it is to fit them - for someone who has never done it before.
Or to make life easier, is there anyone in the west mids area who wouldnt mind giving me a hand for some beer money?
What are the most affordable coilovers that offer a big drop? ideally i'd want a 60-70mm drop on my 172, but dont know what drawbacks this brings. Will it need the arches rolling? will the exhaust scrape over every single speed bump? will I ever be able to have people in the back? lol.
In 15,000 miles of one of my previous cars without ABS I dont remember a time I locked up once. A car without ABS isnt necessarily dangerous but obviously if you arent very switched on and get cut up in the wet ABS might save you / your car.
Think ive decided on the 182 wheels as they seem to be quite cheap, was wondering if anyone knows what colour these wheels are?

I think it is anthracite? planning to get some...
I think maybe im just used to a car that was very low and stiff, and going to a car with any bodyroll at all is a bit strange to me.
The back end certainly likes to go light under hard braking which was quite scary when I wasnt expecting it the first time.
Well I was being a bit unfair - coilovers setup properly VS standard suspension on my clio - so yeh it did handle better compared to how my clio is now. No idea how well the clio will handle once setup correctly but now its definitely not amazing, and has a lot more bodyroll than I would expect...
Have you ever owned one?
Had a ZR which (once warmed up) was driven hard daily for 18 months and it did around 25,000 miles in that time. Nothing major ever went wrong - with the biggest problem being electric windows needing rewiring. The car handled amazing and definitely much better than...
MG ZR 160 probably fits the bill the most - only slightly slower but people are recommending a VTS and it will keep up with that and pull away at higher speeds.
I dont see how a VTS is going to keep up with a 172 anyway, 130 bhp / tonne vs 160+?
Im looking to replace the standard 172 dynamique wheels on my 172 and was wondering what wheels people suggest for the car. I know most will say turinis and I like them but it looks like they are hard to come by and pricy.
Any other wheels that look decent on a 172?
Im soon to be a new 172 owner after finding a nice low mileage car which im picking up at the weekend.
Just got a couple of questions for those in the know -
The first (and maybe only) thing I want to change about the car is the suspension. I want it a bit lower but not really willing to...
