My missus has the 163bhp Old shape Cooper S and that feels very quick, in felt faster than the 197 I test drove anyway.
Did Evo do any performance test on the two cars? if so does anyone want to post 0-60, 0-100 etc
There would be nothing in it, to prove this, ill use an example of the new clio
DCI 106 and the 1.4 (98BHP)
so the diesel has 106 bhp v 98bhp for the petrol
the diesel has 240nm of torque v 127Nm for the petrol
But despite the petrol being down on bhp and torque the performance is...
I always thought that was the case too, but just been looking at my Renaultsport brochure and the Clio 182 power and torque curves cross at about 3800rpm and the Megane 225 cross at about 4750rpm. Maybe it just the way the graphs are drawn i.e not accurate
I dont think your getting the message, he doesnt want a quick car, it wants to look good and be under 6k and have reasonable insurance cost which none of the above have
Yeah Id go for a 172 if you can afford the insurance.
If not then the 1.4 are a big step up from the 1.2, 100bhp and good for 60 in about 10secs so not bad at all.
If you want a 1.2 as far as Im aware renault are still making the 1.2 sport campus in the old shape and i think you can get a...
here is a link to car valuations, the site seems pretty accurate

Agree about the cup packs, I have them on mine but if you sat me in a 182 (without knowing if it had the cup sus pack or not) and asked me to drive I doubt I could tell whether the suspension pack was fitted or not.
Theres to many Fernando Alonso's on here, the average driver would get...
The 5k kick in my 182 is very noticeable and at that point the car starts to torque steer.
At the time when I 1st got the 182 my bro had a 330ci and the 1st time he drove the 182 I can remember him saying "f**in hell" as the rev counter got to 5k, he was certainly suprised by it.
I must...
its 1059kg
Heres a table I put together some time ago of all the Renaultsport models power to weight ratios, the last two figures are weight and bhp per tonne
Clio 16 v 1.8 137 980 140
Clio Williams 150 981 153
Renaultsport Clio 172 MKI 172 1059 162...
The little diesels are ace, we have Fiesta TDCI (its the missus car) and the bloody thing will do 450 miles to a tank, with most of the driving in commuting traffic! Best enjoy the MPG whilst it last as we swap it for the Cooper S next sat, I assume that will do about 270 miles.
All in all...
Was going to say the same the Clio 1.2 and Corsa SXI both have 75bhp engines so there will be nothing in it in terms of performance.
Very few supermini base models have air con, my mums 1.0l corsa did have air con as std but that was a special edition.
If you are thinking of spending 16k+ then I wouldnt even consider the 182.
If I was spending that money I wouldnt go for the 197 as i feel there are better options i.e 225, ST etc
Congrats on the 182!
As for the ipod im not 100% sure but I fitted a Mini disc changer under the seat of my 182 and all I had to do was buy an adapter which plugs into the back of the stereo, so the leads from the mini disc go into the adapter, and the adapter goes into the head unit.
I...
True but I doubt you can tell the difference between the handling on the roads, or if you can you are simply driving too fast.
I guess the best solution is to buy a full fat 182 with both cup packs, extra 10bhp virtually offsets the cup weight advantage so virtually no difference in...
M3 CSL costs more than a M3, the 172 cup cost less than the 172
The only reason I can see for buying a 172 cup is:
A. You cant afford a 172
B. Your really bothered about the 0.2secs quicker 0-62 time (traffic light racers)
C. You do trackdays
Congrats on the car mate,
My average mpg is about 37mpg, but my car isnt used to commute to work so most of the time its driven on b roads, hence the good economy. If you drive it round town the mpg dives!
Cool, when are the seats out? i found the std seats very good indeed )so much better than the 182. so the recaros should be awesome. So what colour and options you going for?
There’s no cup pack yet but Ill eat my hat if there isn’t one.
I think the 197 v 182 is very much like the Focus RS v New Focus ST debates. The new cars as an overall package are better but they have lost the rawness of their predecessors.
The excuses about the 197 engine being tight is...
Thats nice, the bloke in question has been decent enough to admit he has done the damage and also says he will pay for it, mainly so he doesnt lose his NCD. Just take it to Renault get a quote and then send him the bill, simple as. If you ring his insurance company you are punishing him for...
