I quite fancy one as well as they would be good to see the difference in performance before and after mods. So are you wanting one so you can see the difference in times between the 225 and the chipped 225?
Heres the website http://www.gtechpro.com/ they are $200 which is about £105 at the moment
V6 255BHP 1400KG weight, Power to weight = 182bhp/per tonne
182 182BHP 1090KG weight, Power to weight = 167bhp/per tonne
So the difference is 15bhp per tonne, the V6 has a massive torque advantage though
I understand the warranty bit, but you dont get to keep the warranty with other MINI conversion such as Schnitzer, hartge etc and they cost £1700
Why would anyone buy these conversion (i.e not JCW if it invalidates their warranty) if the same power can be acheived from a few hundred quid?
it cost a fair amount to get the Cooper S up to 200+ bhp, i know the works kits are very expensive but even the unofficial conversion from hartge is £1700
Spend £1700 on the 182 and you will have close to 200bhp, £1700 (such as hartge conversion) on the MINI you will have 210bhp and my money...
Surely this conversion will not only increase peak torque but increase torque across the whole rev range? Ok the characteristics of the engine will be the same but the increase in torque at lower revs will help in gear times
The main reason the 182 has the same in gear acceleration as the Fiesta ST is that they have similar torque figures.
If you dont like or carnt be arsed to rev the balls of your 182 then maybe a turbo powered hot hatch will be best for you. However if you want to keep the 182 then GDI do a...
get a MKII V6 255 as IMO they look better and according to reviews/road test they are significantly faster, handle better and overall are just better cars than the MKI
According to autocar the 228 version does 0-60 in 7.1 (6.3) & 0-100 in 18.1 (17.0)
The figures in brackets are for the 182, so shouldnt be a problem really
I never said anyone is stupid or that everybody is the same, i just said I couldnt see any reason for buying the 197 over the 225.
Its just my opinion, no need to get touchy about it
couldnt agree more, the 182 and 225 were different beasts. Now the 197 is so similar to the 225, throw in the fact that they both cost pretty much the same at the moment and with that I cant see why anyone would buy one over the 225.
Another point, On its own the 197 feels and is a quick car...
I paid £13k brand new for my 182 (direct from a Renault dealer, both cup packs and met paint), which compared to most on here seems a little expensive.
The first dealer I visited said they would do it for £13.5k and I rang or visited about 10 dealers after that and some of them wouldnt match...
I wonder if anyone paid full list price, for the 182 (im sure they did). I mean if you had both cup packs and met paint you were looking at just over 15k
thats correct,
One of the probs I find with the 182 is that when accelerating off a rounabout at about 25mph, you will probably be in 2nd gear when in reality you should be in 1st as it will nearly do 40mph in 1st. The problem with being in 1st that its soo bloody noisy!
The through the gear times according to autocar (30-70) are 5.8 for both cars, thats a full fat 225 and full fat 182
obviously if both drivers planted their right foot in 3rd at 30 the 225 would murder the 182.
I think over all the 225 is quicker, but as long as the 182 is being driven to...
Basically the 172 comes with all the luxuries, i.e air con, xenons, leather etc
The 172 cup comes with virtually nothing, it has none of the above and no abs. It is lighter so a bit quicker and it has better suspension = better handling.
If you like your creature comforts buy the 172 if...
