    Engine swaps /refurb

Bloody hell, fairly impressed with that mileage sprint16v, tell me did the engine still have a healthy pull at that age, and what was rest of car like. Without doubt the highest miles I have heard on a valver/willy. Engine wise I would look for a Renault 19 16v. Theyaint as loved as clios and...

Mikey, I have 16 Mille Miglia Spiders on my white valver, will send you a pic if you want although you will need to give me an email to send it to, as i dont have the pic hosted anywhere. I think they look good but you can judge for yourself Alex M

    anti roll bar removal

Got hold of uprated anti roll bar links and bushes which I was going to stick onto my valver. However the Haynes says to remove the anti roll bar you must take off the downpipe. I have jacked the car up and had a look and its difficult to tell if this is so. I reckon it looks like it might slide...

    Too hot to handle

coolspot, i aint had a heat shield on mine for ages, which might explain my super heavy clutch. See that 25+vat price for a heatshield, is that from reno dealer or somewhere else as it sounds reasonable. Cheers

    Urgent Valver Help!!

Funny you mention this as its been on my mind lately. My passenger side drop link is snapped. Couldnt locate a new bolt for it, although bushes are easy to locate. Went to renault dealer who said they were crap and always snap, and to replace it with a hi-tensile steel bolt. However in the end...

supposedly when you fix it with new pump, noise comes back again within 6 months, this true?

    Brake Caliper Advice

Its best to remove calipers completely and clean and paint them on bench. If you are unsure about taking them off, take the pad carrier off, as if 172s are similar to 16v, the carrier is dead easy to remove, but is the majority of the caliper visible through your wheel spokes. And so taking this...

    The Ultimate Engine Upgrade!

yeah you get small 500ml tins of engine enamel, much better finish, and tin goes far. VHT paint is definetly overkill

Welding over sunroof! Engineers - help!

Myself and a mate did this on his RS Turbo, roll cage was going in and he didnt want a sunroof, for similar reasons to yourself. We used a drill powered nibbler to cut out a square slightly larger than hole from another escort, which was then trimmed to just smaller than the hole left by sunroof...

    Exhaust Dilemma

Anybody have one of these fitted. Quite appealing as they are competition spec, and cheap. However I know by reputation they are super loud, but anybody got one fitted to a 16v, or any other clio, and could be kind enough to give us a quick review. If it wasnt too loud I would be quite into...

    Urgent help plz

as long as lambda sensor is left in place (which is before the cat anyway), the car is quite happy to have no cat, remember at MOT time though later models will not pass the emissions test without them. Unfortunetly this is a fact and the only way around it is to put it back on for MOT or find a...

    Engine Mounts

clio 16v engine mounts are fairly short lived and in some peoples opinion not up to the task, aint tried uprated one, but since this is the mount that limits engine movement back and forward the most its bound to be worth a try. Alex M

    Jon’s Clio16V beats Astra Gsi...

anybody fancy hosting it (or emailing it to us) as i use Imesh not kazaa, but still wouldnt mind having a look, as my mate had one, but never got a chance to race him before he flogged it, this would go a bit towards winding him up. cheer Alex M

fitting b/ball joints & track rod ends

yeah i was crapping it about damaging the cv joints, but seem ok. New ball joint tranform front end feel, end of clonking for a while. My local mechanic reckons clios on big wheels munch through ball joints quicker than any car he knows. We shall see how long they last Alex M

fitting b/ball joints & track rod ends

Lofty I did ball joints recently on my valver, the 16v ones arent a taper fit as on moist cars, but instead are held by a pinch bolt that locates in a recess on ball joint, through a clamp. This bolt (on both sides) sheared on trying to loosen them, and so this made it harder to punch them...

    Help Needed: Steering

Common valver problem, usually the pump, mine does it also. Changing this gets rid of it, but there was a post not that long ago, in which people had changed thier pumps and the noisy steering was back sooner rather than later, reckon a good few valver owners are just putting up with it, as it...

unhappy with engine on start up (belt)

WD40 is making a mess of that side of engine bay (at least its protected from rotting) in my valver. Taken it off the road last night cause it needs a few things done - aux belt, front fog inoperative, might put braided hoses on back (looks hasslesome, front one were), few wee paint spots...

    Painting Brake Calipers

I did mine in subtle blue hue and they look good, not tacky at all, plus it protects your calipers from roting, calipers are really in the firing line for salt etc. Was doing new pads and disc at time, so my calipers were off, although I did it without detaching flexi. I used spray brake...

unhappy with engine on start up (belt)

mines the same age (m-reg) with 84k miles, what have you done mileage wise with your 16v. Pretty sure its a 16v quirk, as I dont remember hearing of any RTs, 172 etc, just valvers and willys Alex M

unhappy with engine on start up (belt)

My 16v does that as well and I remember previous posts about this, think they all to it from time to time, and changing the belt doesnt seem to always get rid of it. When mine first started doing it I started on changing the belt, only to notice that the alternator had lost a nut, and was a...

    Braking Problem

Itll be a siezing caliper, remove caliper and soak slides and round piston in WD40. Pump brakes so piston comes out, not too far or it might pop it out. Then push it back in, keep doing till it frees. If you cant get it to go back in, remove cap from master cylinder, and get a largish G-Clamp...
