Is the standards on the back that count, and if its up to scratch there, and its the right grade, its perfectely acceptable, actually sounds a good deal to me!
Guide to oils standards...
These TVR ones are cool, although before I knew of them I made a complete tit of myself at the scottish motor show, doing a dukesofhazzard entrance on a £50k car, guy from TVR stand was pissing himself, as were my mates since I am the one out of us all thats is supposed to be into cars hmm!
They are all really noisy and I have heard new ones can start a wee growl after only six months. Just leave it till it actually goes, check the aux belt is tensioned ok
Also add to the check first list (inexpensive stuff), the inner track rod joints at rack end of arms, had one of these replaced on mine, what a difference, you need to cahnge whole track arm but really made a large difference, they are about £50 odd from Reno
Well at 90k my head gasket went, depsite always having decent coolant mix and never been cooked. Also head gaskets are defo a common occurence on these engines, but not really any worse to comparable all alloy 16v engines. Rover K-Series, Vauxhall XE etc both highly rated engines, K-Series love...
I used engine enamel/laquer since its realy thick, up to the heat, and is available in a squad of colours for a fiver (throw in three quid for spray brake cleaner and you r laughing). However they need touched up know, so cant say it lasted brilliantly, wee bit over a year maybe, but they got...
You save a fortune if you tackle some of these jobs yourself, they are hellish annoying cars to work on, I am removing the engine on mine the now, and spent 45mins punching the drive shaft roll pins out last night, pain in the arse, and it is exactely because of wee time consuming probs like...
LAD (Larton Automotive Developments), Ernie Larton I think is the founders name, they seem to be getting a bit of a slating on here, but they are biggish players in the uk motorsport scene, and have an impressive track record and some well interesting modified cars on there back catalogue. CCC...
Yeah as long as the aint roasted (very important to avoid gasket hassles)and always had loads of the correct oil, they will take a thrash all day long. In fact has anybody noticed that quite often it is the cars that are regularily thrashed that turn out to be amongst the best, cartainly true of...
might have problem with siezed track rod ends (also get right ends, as there are two kinds male and female), try a little heat on them if they are not moving), ball joints are fairly easy although two problems might present themselves. Pinch bolt that holds ball joint to hub carrier often shears...
There is not a huge amount of science to it, but is definetly something that takes a while to master. Really helps if you have access to a flow bench as this is where most serious tuners tweak the most power out of headwork. An ok guide to basics of porting heads can be found here (for vw but...
Yeah I got 4 slash pipe with unsilenced decat from k-tec, seriously load, get loads of comments about it, some love it, equally as many hate it, so guess it is down to yourself
Yeah but hate phoning dealers as it always gets orders screwed up, I have 4 slash cut exhaust from K-Tec, which I wish to exit within a custom rear splitter using a modified ibiza front splitter, but I have a suspicion that ibiza front splitters are not deep enough to box off tail pipe exit...
if there is enough thread protruding (loads of inuendo in this thread) get a couple of nuts of correct size and put both on and tighten against each other as tight as you can. Then by placing large vice grip over both of them stud should come free. Also try heating the stud but be carefull not...
before you start replacing major steering components, check to see that it is not the inner track arm joint. These are hidden inside the gaitors attached to rack. They wear, possibly even worse than the more normal outer track rod ends.
Check them by firmly grasping track rod arm (with car...
Yeah paddle is a joke day to day, and only really required with big power (not a valver), get standard one as its cheap and does fine, unless you do a lot of 1/4 miling and loads of burn outs, then get uprated one at least
I had E appearing on mine before, but car carried on running and it went away as quickly as it appeared and never returned. Always wandered is this display used for error codes or anything else as it seems daft having it only displaying temp, especially when you consider the trip computer setup...
19 diesel box is a good bet, anybody tried one, even in a 19 16v or clio 16v/willy, they will be stronger, and less likely to be tired, as they are unlikely to get thrashed, unlike a valver box etc
yeah thats what I do, take hubs to garage and they will press them for you, dead simple and quite often they wont charge you (usually only five mins work), or if they do they are kinda embarrassed and only ask a fiver/tenner. If you are doing rear ones, consider new discs at same time, as if you...
Yeah local crowd will skim and pressure test head for £25 so will have to go for that. Still pissed off it went, as it has never been cooked and always had good properly mixed coolant, just started losing a little and has got worse, seeps out between head and block just under distributer, but...
Yeah sussed all that, just aint started and thought I would enquire so I knew what to expect. I want to change the idler and put a new tensioner on, Its just looks a very tight fit, but I guess your right, I wont know until I strip it, I was just curious as to whether its easier done, with...
Gone to start on my valvers head gasket, and also put on a new cam belt etc. Anybody done one of these themselves at home. How much of a hassle is it, two things concern me, lack of access to belt and tensioner and idler, are they difficult to release, even with access helped by removing...
If its warm you wont be getting the guage to max out as the oil thins out when hot and so pressure drops. These pressures are fine when engine is warm, you would not want 6 bar when the oil is hot as it will find ways out of the engine when that thin at that pressure.
