Lol fair play, that's a fact. Although my local dealer tells me renault won't let them do as much off the Twingo yet as they can with the Clio. Doesn't bother me, I mean there are shedloads of pre-reg Twingo GTs out there with 10 miles or so on the clock at about 7-7.5k, so yeah, a few months...
*buy a 197*
Don't worry, tbh I haven't got any idea who's referring to who most of the time, unless direct quotes are made.
*buy a 197*
This chap's probably just referring to the random way the thread is progressing. Me, on the other hand, I just like to stick to subliminal messaging.
*buy a...
Depends on how you like your hot hatches! If you prefer turbocharged engines then (AND I HATE SAYING THIS!!) the new model Mini Cooper S has a superb engine and gearbox, and point to point on road it'll be at least as fast as a 197. On the track the 197 is better cos it has a blindingly good...
Glad to hear it. I don't care how good they're supposed to be to drive, they just tell everyone that you're desperate to be really rich and successful and you're not quite there. And at 19 no insurance company would touch you, surely.
If you want something new then have a look at Renaultsport meganes, a lot of people on here rave about them. If you wanted something Clio/Corsa sized I'd go for the Clio every time. A nice 197 with the cup suspension. And you'd have a shedload of cash left over.
Probably only gonna get one answer on here. You'll get a few VXR recommendations but most people in the main will say go for a 197 if you can afford the astra vxr. Tbh that's actually my recommendation too... but whatever you do don't buy the astra, I know someone with one and he hates it, poor...
No no, don't do that, I reckon nearly all of us rate the 197 as a blindingly good car, but some of us think that the 182 has a more aggressive feel that makes it more fun. Bonkers, if you will ;) but it's aaaaaaaaaall opinion. However... if you fancy a direct swap, your 197 cup for my 182, just...
I agree, the game has moved on. I'd swap my 182 for a 197 in a heartbeat if only I could afford one, because I've grown out of the 'manic hot-hatch' kind of age. But what it gains over the 182 in sheer ability it loses in that aggressive hot hatch feeling. Can't please everyone lol.
I've had a few looks back at this thread and at the R8... and I don't like it. For one thing I can't get over that stupid dark panel on the side, and it just lacks the kind of supercar "je ne sais quoi" that would tempt me into parting with £80-90k. For that £ I'd buy something else, even if the...
A 255ish bhp Megane and a 220ish bhp Clio. Hmmm... undisputed class leaders anyone? Well, the meg is anyway to be fair, it's just the clio that falls behind point-to-point compared to its rivals. Even the 180bhp Ibiza Cupra is quicker across country, so say Evo.
I think the best thing to do is to search the forums D1CKY. There has already been a huge number of these kinds of discussions and there has never been a conclusive answer reached yet. As was said above, they're all pretty much even. The 182ff will be slightly quicker than a 172ff simply because...
^^Think I'd be inclined to agree. Or boy racers who can't afford 197s might get them instead. I'd rather wait until winter and then ask about a 197 - the deals you can get in december are amazing.
However... if I wanted something cheaper to run than my 182, I might look at one nearly new or...
Tbh they were the first things I saw in the picture! I've gone off the R8 really, although I saw a dark grey one in Teddington recently that almost changed my mind again lol.
Surely, at least to most people, weight and size (or lack of both) are the keys to making a zesty, fun car. A petrol motor with 120bhp in a small 800kg car is a laugh a minute, whereas in my experience 180bhp in a relatively large, heavy car is ok, but just not as exciting. Safety is all well...
Nah, I disagree. All of those you've mentioned either fall short on driving dynamics OR are just too sedate. What I think the other chap is getting at is that none of the hatches you list really feel raw and exciting in the same way the great hot hatches did (a la 205 gti, 182 Trophy, 306 GTi-6...
Tbh I haven't really noticed a difference with my 182. Used to give my old 306 DTurbo a massive boost though. It flew in the winter but was a bit sluggish in summer. Decent car, that, apart from the French electrics which left me on first name terms with half the AA after I'd owned it for 2 years.
Panda 100hp or the Swift Sport. I prefer the Swift tbh cos it's got a bit more go, it's not so tall and the interior is so so much nicer. If I needed something cheaper to insure/run I'd definitely consider an 06 plate one.
I'm sorry but part 2 has really pissed me off. The policeman is talking about cars bigger than 1400cc like they can't achieve high speeds. They bloody well can, but they lack the stopping power and extra stability technology that bigger-engined cars have!
And pointing out all those features of...
Speed doesn't kill.
Inappropriate speed can.
I feel so very sorry for Matthew's family, because it's something they should never have had to live through. Their son's inexperience has cost everyone who knew him dearly, and he lost his own life because of it. I don't believe it was his friend...
