That's a bit of a generalisation TBH - not necessarily correct.
What does the C20LET make? About 200bhp standard? And that's a turbo'd lump out of the box. The F4R in a 172 isn't turbo'd out of the box.
I'm running well over 200bhp already (probably with a similar amount of boost) and it'll be a...
That's quite interesting actually ^
What does the car feel like to drive without the PAS? Obviously the steering will be heavier etc, but does it still feel as responsive and is it much more difficult to drive?
I've driven quite a few 205 GTi's without power steering and they felt amazing - much...
Nail. Head.
Unless you've actually driven a Clio with a lot more power than standard you won't understand the appeal. Those who haven't should try it sometime or get somebody who owns one to take them for a spin. I'm sure one or two opinions would be changed afterwards.
I had a 306 D-Turbo at one point. That had done over 200k and never missed a beat.
I know it's a different engine and all that but I've always thought Peugeot diesel engines were reliable.
...is fookin' brilliant.
As I'm not at work and didn't have much to do today I decided to spend a bit of time on the car.
So far I've:
Topped up the oil
Topped up the washer jet fluid
Checked all other fluid levels
Fitted rear silvervisions
Sorted my tyre pressures
Removed the back seats...
Another benefit of 100k+ Clio's is that they've probably had plenty of thrashing or done a lot of motorway miles (high revs). IMO this is a good thing because the F4R's seem to perform better when they're given a lot of stick.
I've been in 2 hard driven 172's now that have done over 100k (a Ph1...
My grip is brilliant, but the torque is sometimes too much for the tyres to take when nailing it - especially in the wet. During normal or even spirited cornering it doesn't feel any different to standard though.
An S/C'd Clio wouldn't develop as much torque so would probably be better if anything.
Boosted Clio's are VERY quick. Those who haven't driven or owned one won't believe some of the machinery they can keep up with or even beat in a straight line, while still being epic fun to drive around corners.
Just do it!
The sensible thing would be to buy a "better" car. But the fact is that being an enthusiast doesn't mean you have to be sensible as well.. I love having turbo power - the novelty NEVER wears off. I like having a fairly standard looking car with a unique spec list that outperforms...
Loads. But...
a) I can afford to pay for it.
b) I can afford to run it.
c) Yes I could have just brought a faster car, but then it wouldn't surprise anyone. I like my car to feel special in some way.
At the end of the day I don't have any outstanding debts, I have a high disposable income...
I think whichever option you go for you'll be happy with it. 200ish bhp in a Clio makes it very quick no matter which setup you go for. I grin like a wanking Jap every time I drive mine and it's not running anywhere near full boost yet.
Everyone bums the supercharger on here TBH. However, you have to weigh up the pro's and con's of each.
ITB's - sound awesome, keep the engine normally aspirated. Cheapest option, although with an Omex and high comp internals as well it'll bump the price up to a similar level as a supercharger...
Re: THE MEET - Yorkshire/midlands etc etc - 23/01/10
23rd is fine by me.
I'm OK for meeting anywhere really as long as it's not a gazillion miles away.
The MPG on the trip computer is an average figure. It is not exact and doesn't reflect your actual fuel economy at that precise moment.
Until you reset it, it will take an average of the fuel consumption since the last time it was reset.
If you've been ragging the car and chewing fuel on a lot...
