Re: Ben_stevo172 - Supercharged Monaco 172
I've put a thread up about it under "Clio Discussion" but so far it's just being used as an excuse for people to troll / say it's a waste of money / say it's a willy waving competition / act bitter because they have a 1.2.
The more names we can get...
Wait until it makes more torque and you have to get a paddle clutch. F'ing nightmare in slow traffic (but worthwhile just so you can have extra grunt!)
Definitely just boosted cars pissing around. The idea is to get a feature in the mag for multiple members at once, not to get an accurate picture of how they perform against each other.
Turn up, arse about, take pictures, let the mag editors decide what to do with the material we produce.
If they're as good as the standard suspension setup or better, that's an absolute bargain.
Very interested to see how they perform.
Fixed damping I assume?
Put your name down then! :p At the moment I'm just getting a list together of who will attend.
I'll be arranging it for the middle of summer if possible, so we'll have more chance of a dry track and it'll give people plenty of notice.
Yesterday in Ben_Stevo172's project thread there was suggestion of a Boosted / ITB'd Clio "Shootout" meet.
I emailed the editor of Performance French Car magazine, as suggested, and have received the following response:
So they are interested in covering it. We may have to take the photos...
Sounds nice matey. You'll have to meet up with me at some point so I can have a proper gander at it. You're only about 10 minutes away :)
Note to self: Must get a decat after MOT.
Re: Ben_stevo172 - Supercharged Monaco 172
Yeah I'll start a new thread if anything comes of it. No need to hijack Ben's thread further (even though I already have done!)
Re: Ben_stevo172 - Supercharged Monaco 172
Just dropped the editor of PFC an email about a potential mag feature. Will let you know if I get a response...
Re: Ben_stevo172 - Supercharged Monaco 172
Definitely wouldn't have peak boost near the redline. It tails off after about 5,000rpm just like yours does.
That said though, more boost doesn't necessarily mean more power. I seem to remember Sideways Danny saying something about when the boost...
106's rule. Fact.
My 106 GTi just had a Simota induction kit and a Pugsports exhaust, and it still went some. It definitely felt quicker than my 172 (when the 172 was still standard) but in reality it probably wasn't.
The next step was to cam it and get a standalone ECU ready for the throttle...
Mine doesn't flash while driving. It only flashes when the doors are locked and the alarm is enabled. It will also flash when you first unlock the car if the alarm has been set off while it was locked, and will give 3 beeps to advise.
There is also a flashing red light in the centre of the dials...
I never bothered having mine done. After about a year of driving it it's still fine. No uneven tyre wear and the handling is spot on - way better than standard. It feels really stiff and feels like it holds the roads loads better than before.
I will have it done when the coilovers go on next...
