Hopefully you did buy oe or other decent discs and pads, anything less then they may be warped or the pads very worn. Wheel bearings, driveshafts and even tyres will be the next items to check, and don't forget the obvious wheel nuts, are they tight enough, it has been known for someone not to...
Take yer dad with you to check out a car, he's had more experience with cars than you I guess. Only problem is, what he thinks is right for you and what you want are two different things, Right?
I'm going to put stickers on my car and up the value to £5k, sounds like a good investment to me. How about "Old Geezer Motor" or "Racy Clio" on a yellow background, should contrast well with the blue paint.
But not as hot as you describe. Haven't see a clio water pump yet but if they have a plastic impeller they are prone to damage or falling of the spindle. Looking at my pump it seems it will easily unbolt in 15 mins. My other thought is the cooling pipework is not connected to the right...

'sideways danny' is often on this forum and around your patch, also has a repair business nearby specialising in Clios. Seems to be the boy worth getting to know.
Plenty of 172's for £2k about. The engine block and major components are strong enough, what lets them down is the little bits around the engine and the body as well. If you are good with the spanners they are cheap enough to fix yourself. Coming from a Scooby you'll find running one cheap as...
I drive my Cup once or twice in a fortnight and the odd trackday, as I'm usually in a V. Vivaro during workdays. Always a joy to take out the Cup for a good thrashing on me own.
If the Apex are cheap then give them a go, springs are easy to change yourself. If you dont like them then change them again to something else.
If you haven't done this job before allow 5 hours to change 4 springs, 2nd. time round you'll be doing them in 2 hours.
The ride height with Pro's on your Cup is exactly the same as mine, so they are the right ones and the right part no. If you had OE or Apex springs before then you would be having problems with an aching back or you fillings woud have fell out.
