It's noise regulations according the the Renaultsport experts on the renaultsport forum. And in my experience it made no noticeable difference to torque or power, whether in or out.

What I will say is.. I wouldn't pay full price for one, unless I was trying to squeeze every last drop from a single TB setup. But if you can get a Maxogen (the complete setup with silcone elbow, blanking plate etc) for around £200 then it's Maxogen everytime.
