Totally depends. I see you have a Clio 1.4 16v, if I were you I would be far from ruling out the ST...try something different from the Renault. I really like the feel of sporty Fords, it will feel like a huge upgrade from what you have. An ST would 'feel' newer in its drive to a MK2 Clio IMO...

I'd just whack out the sandpaper (400, 600, 800 grit) and some autosol, then go over them with a PC if you have one. I did a quick job of it on mine (under 2 hours) and they've come up nicely. Car looks fantastic btw mate, shouldn't struggle to get what you're asking or thereabouts.

The looks win me over no doubt! Dave said the same thing, has given me some useful advice, but I think he's a bit more hardcore than me - I value my spine! I've not seen a set of Bilsteins fetching that little, plus don't forget the torsion bar would have to be matched. You're a bad influence!

Agree on the matching tyres, thats up next along with a refurb (in standard silver) Not sure if I can justify messing with the suspension, lookswise it could do with lowering but it drives great as it is.

Though I do agree with your sentiments on the 'lowz' - generally a pain in the arse to make a car drive worse in many cases.

I think matters that can almost be taken as a given are that it will have a sweet gearchange, good handling and nicely weighted steering as per pretty much every Ford in the last 10 years. If theres any one area you usually can't knock a Ford, it's on the basic drive.

I put a stainless exhaust on my Zetec S, then when I put the standard one back on the day the new owner was due to pick it up, this stuff started flying out the tailpipe! Not ideal at all!
