Mine did a similar thing where it would not maintain idle after starting and the engine would stall. It was a combination of a dodgy water temp sensor and leaking O-rings on the fuel pipe to fuel rail connection.
They are top adjustable so it takes all of 10 seconds to adjust the damping. I wouldn't run the front on the hardest setting as it will promote understeer. I've currently got the fronts on the softest setting and the rears a 180degree turn stiffer. This seems to have worked well for road use...
I think Freds had one sat in the bay before to see if it fits. I'm sure someone on here was looking into getting one fitted. Anything is possible if enough cash is thrown at it.

Yes a 172 may not be as 'balanced' as a RWD car but I certainly don't have any problems with putting power down or understeer. RWD cars are fun but so are properly setup FWD cars.

Even in a track car I think aircon has its uses. Sweating your arse off while burning round a track because you wanted to gain a few bhp is stupid IMO and takes some of the enjoyment away.
It works though as long as its done properly i.e not bunging loads of the stuff on there!
I was getting fed up of needing a new gasket almost every time I took the TB off to clean it as them seem to stick and rip when you remove them.
Mine was a loose bulb filament in the rear cluster that was still connected to one post and then shorting out the other under braking. I'm sure its quite rare but still possible
There is one in the ashtray. The connector comes loose. Pull the ashtray out and have a fiddle with the cig lighter connector as I think they use the same light.
Theres no light in the glove-box and the bulb in the interior light is a w5w.
