If you could please mate, If i have to change the shocks then so be it but the way it is now i'm sure theres more to it than just them.
If you need an extra pair of hands for the day when you book it in then let me know, i can't do f**k all but pass tools........... :rasp:
I need some help and suggestions please, The handling on my 172 cup is shocking. It's been to fred and he hasn't found a problem but has said himself something isn't quite right, Last time the 2 fronts tyres were worn so they were replaced and all inflated to the correct pressures.
He told me...
The t series is 10 years old at its best now, it came in 2 variants. 180bhp which was found in the 800 vitesse, and then the 197bhp version which was in the vitesse sport, 620ti, coupe turbo, hatch turbo.
Difference between the 2 was the psi they ran (some say cams too), the 197bhp runs 11.7psi...
The T-Series engine don't really suffer with HGF, thats just people jumping on the K series bandwagon.
The later engines were fitted with klinger gaskets, this is the only gasket to use on the engine really, can be identified by the tab sticking out by the cyclinder head.
Also 240bhp? max...
i've got a st3 box for sale, but for a vw golf. The obd lead can be changed ;)
I had my golf done by them, the results were good. The aftersales are even better, i said i wasn't happy with the map, so they did a custom one for me at no cost.
What do you suggest? Is it worth looking at new suspension all round? Coilovers maybe? Before i concentrate on making it quicker i want to sort the handling and brakes first.
Cambelts, look to pay around £300 ish mark - DONT GO TO RENAULT.
Gearbox - dont know - havn't had to replace that yet.
Parts are just the same as your average car though nothing to expensive about them.
Don't know you age or driving history but another thing you may want to look at is...
Please do, on another note mate - price for brembo hc's, DS2500 Pads, Lines and fluid fitted please? Not urgent but wouldn't getting them done in the next few weeks if possible.
Very good fun cars. They all have little niggly problems no doubt but i'm learning to live with them.
Ive had mine since the end of august 09 and have replaced the cambelt (piece of mind) then replaced it again when the dephaser pulley was replaced, new back box, gearbox mounts, cts sensor...
Suspension is the standard cup setup, one good thing though is i found it very predictable on the track which was good been a newbie! But i wouldn't mind upgrading it.
Done my first trackday at Bedford yesterday, was an excellent day and will be doing more without question, before i do though i need to sort the car out.
Brakes = fail. Currently using Mintex m1144, OE discs and lines, Didn't really fade but just not sharp. My mates was in his 350z with Brembo...
Tyre regs ARE a changing, come into effect by 2012. All tyres will be given an efficiency rating, similar to what you see on appliances in comet etc.
They will be graded on rolling resistence, noise pollution etc etc. Anything what don't meet a certain criteria in future years will not be fit...
Just a little update, Fred fitted a new stat for me today and it's sorted the problem.
Also noticed a BIG difference in mpg - normaly getting 28ish mpg, doing the same journey home and i got 40.9!
Received my pads today from auto-nation but I have a stupid question to ask!
What are the wires coming off the top of the pads? My old pads didn't have them iirc.
Are they the correct pads for my 172?
Your doing better than me.
i'd replace your temp sensor first - i've got my old one which i'll happily send you to try, i presume it works fine as it's giving exactly the same reading as the new one.
Replacing the sensor is easy, if your quick you wont loose much coolant either.
Start your own thread lol.
I'm guessing so mate, i've replaced by CTS and still getting the same readings so from what i've been reading the last cause is the stat.
Once it's done i'll let you know the outcome, hopefully it sorts it.
Whats you mpg like?
Right over the past week or so my tempertaure gauge has been playing up, it never goes just above half way but would drop quite abit (about 3 notches).
Anyway Fred got me a coolant temp new sensor which i replaced, and the problem is still there. I've noticed if i go and give the car a bit of...
thanks for the replies, one other thing. Is this the correct sensor?

Cars been in with Fred recently and he said that the sensor was on its way out, sure enough he was right and now my gauge isn't giving an accurate reading.
I'm going to go and get a new sensor tomorrow but took the airbox out this morning to see what i was up against, looks easy to replace...
Fred I didn't know you did all of this stuff to order, I'm coming to see you tomorrow so we'll have a chat about some other bits for the near future!
I would have ordered them through you if I'd have known.
I've just ordered a set of mintex 1144 pads for my 172 cup as i have my first track day coming up.
I'm going to leave the standard discs on as they are in perfect condition still, they are genuine renaults discs.
The brake fluid was changed with decent stuff not so long ago too.
Will this...
Lotus elise? The k series is actually a very good engine. Yes it suffered with hgf but once done, and if done properly with the mls gasket it don't tend to happen again.
