Go for it...it's the driver who crashes, not the car! (unless a wheel falls off or something)
Although, I wouldn't be paying over a grand on insurance but that's your choice.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it once it's fixed. Mine served me well with 5 years of hassle free driving!
I found it ok on the motorways but as mentioned, another gear would have been nice for cruising.
A friend of mine has a 230 and it's a stunning car but the engine (for me) is just pointless. The amount of £'s it costs him on fuel (avg 19mpg) and oil is pretty rediculous for the performance. I'm sure they are fun to rev the nuts off but four adults in the car and the performance disappears...
HTC have been around for years. I've had an HTC for 2 years and it's been awesome, if a little large! I'll be going for the new HTC in January - stuff the iPhone!
My friends always enjoyed a blast in the 172 but they find the diesel more impressive!
The turbo cars always feel quicker I guess, especially as a passenger.

I'm sure it's the same with every car manufacturer, they make a rubbish one. Or you are just unlucky. Mine never missed a beat but it was looked after from day one.
It rattled and the stereo was gash but...
