Not a great deal of pressure needed as you need it to glide across the paintwork instead of forcing it.
I think from memory I did about 2 cars with the lube from the kit but you can use quick detailer or a shampoo and water mix.
Best bet is to rinse the car some way, I personally use the Gilmour foam gun as it also helps to loosens the dirt because as you might guess it covers the car in foam. Over the winter I was also spraying some Citrus Wash to loosen the lower part of the bodywork.

It's fine to use hte Gilmour on a hose with a hozelock connection, this is what I use with mine.
The pressure shouldn't be an issue, any normal outside tap should be fine.
Another product to consider if you find the Gilmour too expensive is the SuperSpray, it's only about a tenner with...
