yeah cos you drive it right through the rev range , if i remember correctly the oil breathers on the 1.2 16v are not too good either so that could contribute to the problem, fred knows all about this he has had every problem on his 1.2
the 1.2 16v always gets mayo on the top cap its just the fact that the oil doesnt get hot in there , my girlfriends 1.2 with 12k on the clock gets it cos she drives like a granny. If your not sure get a compression test done on it that will tell you for sure.
when i looked into it all i wanted a 1.6 16v but when i came down to it , it was the same price to do a 172 conversion as a 1.6/1.4 all in all so not even worth doing that unless your really young and can afford to insure it.
1.4 seems a better bet only 10hp down and about 5 insurance groups
you need to get in touch with dbilas in germany you need to send your cams off to them . im sure piper or kent could do them in the uk ..... trouble is you will need some sort of remap to get the most out of them and the labour for changing them will be around £500ish (with a new belt) so your...
i dont know how nick does it but if you look on an fse valve it has 3 connectors for 3 lines and the 1,2 has 2 lines and no return. earlier 1.2s did have 3 lines.

no point having a viper wont do anything much for the money
itg pannel filter £35 will do a decent job
no point having a cat back exhaust as the standard one has no middle box freeing the engine up a back box will be ok
de-cat (if you can find a friendly mot station)
There isnt a remap for...
behine the steering wheel there is a unit that controls all that, there is a plastic ring that keeps it all tight , this sometimes pops out ... all you do is pull the steering wheel off and push the plastic ring back in , just clips in

the main prob is the exhaust manifold. Goes out the back of a 16v engine but front of a 172, so something has to be changed, alot of work id think.Be cheaperjust to get a 172.
exhaust manifold is in the back of a 172 engine
the hardest...

check all the rubber inner and outer joints prob dont forget cv grease is black like oil common mistake.
most of the time is easier to get a recon drive shaft than mess about changing cv boots
1.2 16v runs lots better with a fully synth such as comma 5w 40 £20 from local factors
if your topping up a 10w 40 is the one to use
