Cheers Dan.
They're having a look to see what history they've got. They bought the car from the garage after the cambelt had supposedly been done by them, so I suppose they wouldn't bother putting the receipt in the history. I'd have thought a note would be made in the book though.
Genuine...
Do Renault keep records of all servicing, etc work that is completed on all cars taken to a dealership?
I ask because I'm looking at a car that was purchased from a subsidary of AKS Renault (White Post, in Yeovil) and the owner says that they were told that the cambelt had been changed, but...
Looks like a cracker, good work. I know it's Yozza'd, but I'd lose the stickers, get some normal clear side repeaters and get the badges back to normal on the rear. :)
I imagine if that bit inside the pipe has never been cleaned in, say, 6 years (or more or less...) then it'll probably take some tackling.
Rich, would you recommend some carefully brushed on wheel 'acid' cleaner?
* Makes a mental note of sale price for when Dan advertises it for sale in his garage...* ;)
Absolute bargain mate, I'm meant to be viewing one tomorrow with 70k for more than that! Might print that advert off and use as a bargaining tool..
Re: The story of a high mileage 172
Good read mate, good to hear that whislt there are plenty of 'wear and tear' bits to be replaced, the car itself is going strong and looking good.
High mileage is a great bargaining tool to get a cheap car but more often than not, the mechanics of the car...
Hi mate, plenty of info on here so probably worth doing a search.
With the Ph1's, you'll probably have to be patient, as the older these cars get, the more dogs you'll find. Personally, I'd set your mileage limit to 80,000 (10k a year is pretty reasonable) and don't let mileage dictate your...
I bought the Evo issue with the ph1 off Ebay for not a lot more than RRP, but that was a couple years ago now. Considered it to be a really nice piece of 'service' history to put with all the paperwork, along with an original sales brochure I managed to find.
Congrats chap, nothing better than getting a 'new' car. You wouldn't believe the hassle I'm having just to view a normal, genuine Cup for £5k or less...
^ Vinyl sticker reg plate FTW.
I reckon your best bet is sticky pads if you don't want to risk it matey. Get the bigger spongey ones as the rounded Clio bumper does not take kindly to the thinner ones!
Going back to the original question, why not just buy some sticky pads and put it where the bumpstrips used to be for a week or two? They come off easy enough afterwards with a bit of white spirit.
Cheers guys, I did call him about it. To be honest I've spoken to him about 4 times today regarding various things and I made a point of asking him to let me know any issues with it and he said nothing was wrong "I'd let you know mate, considering you're coming up from Exeter"... then I asked...
If you explain that you're in the process of having some 'repairs' done to the front and the plate can't go onto the plate at the moment, the copper may let you off. I think it's pot luck to be honest mate.
Cheers for the advice bud, I decided to walk away anyway as 3 owner changes in 6 months in itself is a bit concerning... it's actualyl quite nice that I could track those changes, as if it had an up to date V5 then I wouldn't have had the changes of dates to hand.
Maggiore: How in God's name...
Lol, trust me, I'm not expecting a call! The lads in work told me I was mad to go to Brum, joking around, saying I'd get 4 cars put together with gaffa tape, etc....
Just a total waste of about £80 in travelling costs and 11 hours of my time. (viewed 2 yesterday, the other was stuck at the back...
Went to view a 172 Cup in Birmingham today, lovely car, well looked after, quick, comfy, solid, etc, etc...
So, get to the guy's house to have a look at paperwork and discuss cash, and he's got the log book there, already filled out... :S
Upon closer inspection, the V5 was in the name of...
A mixture of them becoming more affordable to younger and inexperienced drivers and older cars tend to have things go wrong which aren't worth the cost of repairing I guess.
Lol, was about to say, that's soooo '06.
Would be cool to pull off a square, keeping the cars varied, but in a way so that people can walk amongst them without feeling like they're squeezing through gaps.
