the only checks you can do on the front brakes are a brake roller efficiency test,inspect for leaks,check all caliper slides are free and check that the pads are free in the pad carrier.
4 wires?
there will be full beam,main beam and maybe 2 earth points.the bulb itself only has 3 terminals.the 4th wire may be a piggy back earth for the sidelamp bulb.
you will always get a hissing noise when under load(similiar to the noise @ full lock).if its more of a whiney noise as well then your pump could be worn but valver pumps are quite noisy anyway.

its the noise of the fluid going through one channel on the the rack(left or right).when its not under load the fluid bypasses the channels and just circulates around the pipework.

4 lines means its frozen up.you will have to leave it switched on until code reappears.could take up to an hour though depending on how many attempts you have had at entering the code.

an allignment check is only about £50 and would show up any problems.im sure if you slipped them an extra tenner they would check all your balljoints etc as well whilst its on a ramp.
