Okay so let's play along with this, what I call fantasy, and say the ECU is buggered... How have they arrived at this conclusion? Actually ask for the RTE and get him/her to answer you directly. I know for a fact that no dealership has the equipment nor the trained personnel to debug, decode and...
F - Off... ECU packed up my arse - That's my personal, technical assesment of course.
Buy a used set from RenParts in that case and save yourself nearly £500 but personally, i'd get a second opinion.

If it was fine before then you've done something to either the plug, wiring or the TB itself and it needs checking thoroughly #statingtheobvious
You did unplug the TB before your started to clean it yes?
It's a common place for them to leak as the plastic fails allowing the seal to pop out... It's a pretty high pressure area to.
New stat and all will be well... Buy a genuine Renault item though as the cheap ones don't last.

On a clio II just taking the key out of your pocket can trigger throttle related codes. The thing with that system is its very sensitive to voltage drop and interference - even tugging on the wiring loom in the right place can cause it to see an issue and reduce the engine output.
All of this...
No it's a total t**t of a job... I have only done x1 197 wheel bearing and a couple of Meg II's which are similar and it's a rate C U Next Tuesday.
Not really the kind of job to be done on a driveway.

Welcome to my world! Customers just expect me to plug in a computer and give them a miracle answer and bill them 20mins... Afterall, thats "what the dealers do" and when they see 5hrs at £45 an hour for what was really two days work they suddenly become experts in the field and demand...
No bother, give me a nudge if you need anything else. The Cups seem to suffer with this fault more than the FF's for some reason and Renault even have a pedal only short loom available for them to fix the issue (of course you need to prove the fault first of all though).
It could even be the...
Yeah they will have priced using genuine parts then. You can pickup type approved belt kits for around £74 and DIY it for around £200 but sometimes you're better off paying to get it done right. It's not a bad job on the K9's but you have to remove the plastic covers in full to do the water pump...
It's bundled into the main dash loom Chip and a complete C u Next Tuesday to isolate out.
A DMM won't have the range or frequency to see the problem I'm afraid and even a continuity test across the 5 wires won't be scientific proof that the wiring is good and Ideally you will need to go point...
It sounds to me like an interference issue. The TB that is stuck is done and fit for the bin but the others are consistent with a wiring fault between the pedal and the ECM
A scope will help greatly
Chip, sorry to ask stupid questions but I'm just trying to build a history in my head... it's forced a reduction of engine response and caused it to stick at WOT with three TB's on three occasions?
Do you have access to anything like a scope with at least two channels? Also, is the 172 in...
Chip, you say you've had three fail but what symptoms are you experiencing and what, if any, equipment are you using to diagnose the fault with?
Three separate failures, all with the same symptoms, seems unlikely to me and is more likely to be a vehicle fault but I'm making an assumption here...
100% timing belt driven water pump... Deffo change it!
There's a few variations on the non-genuine water pumps though so be sure you get the right one. It's a nice DIY job though these engines so take your time and have fun.
Mick
Genuine parts are still a fair but more and the water pump alone is around £60 (I'd personally only use a genuine water pump). £300 isn't bad IMO with genuine parts but if it's cheap non-type approved bits then yeah it's pricey.

Opening the UCH up and looking for faults will give you a better understanding of what has caused it to fail.
Age/component failure normally displays no signs of failure but water will leave a ring mark and you may Ben see signs of burnt out tracks on the PCB.
Go from there but it's easy stuff...
Passenger side footwell area to the side of the glovebox. Water can ingress for many reasons; poorly replaced windscreen, blocked drain points, modifications to wiring loom grommets, etc
If this is the cause rather than age then you must find it and fix the issue first.
I like the UCH's...
Agreed but it reinforces my previous comment about people not obeying the law unless a proverbial gun is held to their head. Im not saying I'm perfect but try driving a dCi 80 Megane II... Overtaking is not even possible.
I didn't mean that all roads would be electronically governed... I meant...
The UCH is a multifunction unit. It's a microprocessor controlled logic box filled with numerous micro-relays that turn on/off all the things you take for granted such as electric windows (up/down)' central locking (lock/unlock), lighting (side, dipped, main beams, indicators and hazard...
Snakey, that's it yeah but honestly speed recognition is the tip of the iceberg. I'd say in the next 10yrs you won't be able to choose the vehicles maximum speed as it will be legislated and automatically restricted for you (for safety and comfort Europe will claim). It's just typical of the...
Speed limit recognition is already here mate... They can read road signs! It's not a fixed limit (yet) but it honestly won't be long until its software implemented.
