The dealer is just trying it on. They offered me £9,700 p/ex for my 53 172 with 10,000 miles, against a 182 at list price with Cup packs thrown in and 0% finance. Top book is £9800. Or at least it was a few weeks ago.

Quicker to 60, about the same to the ton. Gearing in Mk1 is gay. I would expect a 165bhp valver to beat a standard Mk2 172.

Limiter caught you by surprise? The shift light is on for quite a while when your at the top of fourth gear.......... Sounds like it was cold, so limiter would have been at about 6250 rpm.... about 108 mph. Not completely sure becuase I think the gear ratios are slighlty different in the 182 to...

Import then. Doesnt really make any difference. The only reason I can see that imports are cheaper is that people know that the owner payed less for the car in the first place!! Its the same car, from the same factory!! Enjoy!!
