drivers side drive shaft on ph2

Bracket it bolted to the engine but can be removed. What age is yours? Need to ensure you're buying one with the brackets/bearing right.

    I'm no expert but...

Only way to tell for sure is horseshoe cam locking tool. My bet is that it's out though.

Bumper removal help - the side bits.....

Make sure you've removed the bolt in the wheel arch firstly. Then pull the bumper firmly. I always twist the top of the bumper away from the wing too, seems to make it a bit easier.

Going to replace driveshaft, a couple of questions

3/8 is a touch too big from memory. I broke my 8mm and couldn't be bothered to go to Halfords, touched the 3/8 extension a touch on all sides with the grinder and it worked fine. While you're at ECP, pick up an 8mm sq though. Won't be much more than a few £.

Not required. I'm a skinny little runt and have no problems with it.

Going to replace driveshaft, a couple of questions

As Danny said- i'd much rather replace the shaft. You should be able to loosen the hubnut off with a breaker bar if you're not a big girl. If poss, do it while the car's still on the ground otherwise it needs to be properly steady up on stands for that kind of pressure.

Does a 172 cup gearbox fit into a standard 172?

As above. Any 1*2 box will fit any 1*2. Ph1 172 and 172 cup boxes have speedo drives. These can be fitted to Ph2 172's and 182s with no issues, you just need to block the speedo sensor hole. Ph2 172 & 182 box has no speedo sensor, so if you fit to a Ph1 172 or 172 cup you'll have no speedo.

    172 and 182 gearboxes..any difference?

Ph2 will be fine. I bet you wouldn't notice the difference side by side nor fitted.

PMSL! Only eight?!I don't know how I'd survive without ten, tbh. (;Don't know what you're on about my man! It's my daily at the minute because the Goat is horrific in the cold. Currently averaging 23mpg. Driving short journeys like a coont FTW.Like I said, I've learnt that you can't go out...

    New member, from Lincs

A name I recognise. Good choice of car mate. As said by many, don't waste any money improving bits before you've given it a good go in standard form- they're bloody capable little cars. If you're planning on a lot of track work, decent brakes, 888's and a set of coilovers and you'll be keeping...

    PMSL. I think most 1*2's are scared of me now. Saying that, I've kept as many on the road as I've broken. Almost. (;

If mine makes it there, I'm in! Who would be on it: Rob Me Dave Nick Vish Chris still got the M6? Awesome range of Bavaria's finest. PMSL at period paint. Paired with dodgy dirty beige leather seats, it is a grandadtastic colour scheme.

Someone with a sensible financial head. You can get a set of budget coilovers for an E36 from £120 upwards. FK's are only £200! I'm not sure how much a new set of shocks and springs are from BMW, but I'd bet it's a damn sight more! Also, just because it's a barge doesn't mean it should be sloppy...

Tim- location was Chobham Common- up near Surrey Rolling Road. Just popped in on the way back from a mates.LOL- it does get some funny looks at work. Most people roll in a 61 plate Merc because they're stupidly cheap on the scheme. Not me, 18 year old fucked up family wagon, thanks! It's an...
