Front disks between 20 - 30,000 miles. The rear disks will last more before they're worn out, although normally the disk faces corrode before they wear thin.
Depends on the pads used, how you drive etc
Well without seeing them its hard to say, theres no way they will do 38,000 without needing to be changed. Need to measure them and make sure theyre not near the minimum thickness.
Generally u can tell by the size of the lip if theyre fubarred.
Edit: As long as your pads move freely in the...
You should'nt need to file the lip off the disk... if theyre that old and worn then they need changing. Too much heat + thin disk = cracks.
And theres no way a set of front disks will do 38,000. 25,000 - 30,000 maybe
They do all talk to each other, its can-bus aint it. The speedo uses info from the ABS computer, im not sure if you lose the standard ECU altogether what affect it will have on the ABS tho.

Whereabouts in notts were u parked? ive only ever once parked in the street in notts, window got smashed and stereo was stolen. Some proper cnuts about.
Dont think point 1 is correct, if theres a seat there it needs a working seatbelt. Either needs a new buckle or remove the back seats, if theres no back seats they cant fail the belt/buckle.
Ahh thats where u goIn wrong, leave the hub on with the strut. Bottom ball joint off FTW.
Undo the two 16mm's on the bottom ball joint so ur only removing the wishbone with the subframe. Leave the hub bolted to the strut. Capische??
I find them a t**t to put back in with an engine lift. Have to get the engine at a stupid angle then you've still got the crank pulley and the box hitting the chassis legs! Nahh!
