change the release bearing on the gearbox (lot of labout tbh)
Fit a new dogbone too if it's bad. In extreme cases a really worn one can cause the car to come out of gear when you give it hard throttle.
By dog bone, I mean lower rear engine mount (the one that takes all the torque)
the only 1.8 clio is a MK1 valver box, which would fit iirc, but I'm not sure if the mounts will bolt straight on.
Best to leave the valver box alone actually, pretty weak.
Ph1 172 boxes have a longer 5th and little longer 4th. Ph2 boxes are the short 172 boxes.
mkII wants to fit his too. He bought a stalk and we went through all the pins with a voltmeter to find out what connected to what when each set of lights was on.

You can run apex on standard shocks. I hear they are not too comfy on ride, but if you wanna go lower, stop being such a shandy and deal with it ;)
Knackered bushes would probably not cause THAT much skippage.
Change the lot. Front wishbone bushes (uprated if possible - powerflex), and skocks all round
Be aware the a Ph1 172 has a different style cat to a Phase 2. The Phase 1 has two cylindrical cats side my side and the Ph2 has one small normal shaped cat.
