yup,
traded it in for the scenic, deal complete today... my last ever drive in my cup :-( ... need a family car, baby now etc. I know i'll miss it.... hopefully when the time comes in the next year or so and I get a job again (year out doing msc), i'll be able to get another good car...
i've got the same problem mate. Just done a deal today to trade my cup in for a scenic (new shape)... seems like the ideal "family" car, I would recommend checking them out. I got 7k trade-in for my 03 cup with 24k on the clock.. (they offered £6200 but I spent a long time negotiating before...
my cup does that too... i heard its a common fault but it can be fixed by them modifying something. i only notice it on full right lock reversing off my drive when i leave the house.
deal completed today...
my cups going end of the week, got 7k trade in for it... went for a testdrive today in the scenic and the missus loves it. All in all it's a good deal I feel, people have been saying spend a few grand on another car, but then that means twice as much insurance, twice...
Thats a good valid argument I guess.. the problem I have is, yes, I would like a dynamique or something with more gadgets, but I really don't have any extra cash.. to pay £2000 to get a car 1 year newer than my cup which does the job I need it to is very attractive, esp. the fact it only has 9k...
im taking it for a test drive tomorrow so i'll see what it's like. i'd love to get a bigger engine etc, but i can't afford it at the moment as i've taken a year out of work to do a masters.. ideally i wanted a like for like swap, but the best they could offer me was the old shape on on a 52...
Right,
After much discussion and phone calls today, i've managed to renegotiate the deal to be as follows:-
my 172 cup 03 plate 24k miles, serviced etc.
-for-
scenic 1.4 authenique 53 plate with 7k miles, just serviced etc, plus 1yr left warranty + option to extend for £120 for a...
yeh, i really dont wanna part with the cup, but got a 4 week old baby now and getting the buggy in the cup means removing parcel shelf, then theres no boot space for anything else etc.. girlfriend moaning on etc..
i'll get another decent car again one day, i've still got my minter 5 turbo in...
I guess i need to say then, if anyone is wanting a cheap cup make me an offer.. i'm going to go back to them tomorrow and tell them I want at least £6600 for my cup, I think £6200 is a bit poor...
the other dilemma I have is their scenic is £8995 with 9k on the clock, registered jan 04 wtih...
03 plate with 24k just serviced.. totally standard etc.. been offered £6200 trade in against an 04 scenic with 9k on the clock costing £8995 ...
what do u think? am i being robbed? or does it seem a fair deal.
*edit*
oh yeh, and the 2700 difference ive been offered on their finance at...
basically theres 2 sounds.. theres the quiet rattling from 2-5k if i accelerate in 3/4/5th gear... and theres a knocking sound present when the engine is ticking over at idle which comes and goes which i've noticed. The problem is I don't know if it's me just being sensitive and looking for a...
Right,
You might be aware my cambelt snapped at 24,000 miles.. got the car back from Renault last week, they fitted a new cylinder head etc...
Anyway, since getting it back, both myself and my girlfriend have noticed a sort of... quiet rattling sound which comes from the engine around...
When you say fair bit quicker I don't think it's a case of the megane is a spec in the horizon.. are we talking minimalistic gaps here (e.g. 2 car lengths by the time both reach 90), or are we talking about the megane being an FQ400 contender?
*NOTE TO FORUM MODS* - this is not a racing tale, it's a car comparison discussion.
Had some blonde lass behind me from the lights today in what I think was a megane 225, not sure whether it was the new model or the old, but she was sitting right on my bumper as we pulled away normally...
:Update:
Got my car back, complete with new cylinder head and service.
Seems to be running ok, I took it for a quick "test drive" tonight once I got home (had to get the baby and g/f out the car etc), and it seems as powerful as it was, if not maybe a bit tighter as it hits the 5k mark...
170 was all fitted...
the 24,000 mile service is costing me £199 ... ?? i didnt know i could go elsewhere now otherwise I would have... too late though they've already done it.
Right,
got my cup in for service.. gets a call saying that the bad news is i need both front and rear pads... £170 ...
I told them just to do the service (as the only reason i do it through them anyway is to keep the warranty)...
but am I right in thinking to stuff the pads and fitting...
nah, got my girlfriend having to climb in the back, and i have to take the parcel shelf off to fit the buggy in... dunno why, but i'm having this feeling that i'd be happier with a scenic.. i got to borrow one as a courtesy car a while back and i loved it...
well im sure we'll find out if more internal damage has taken place once they fit the new head and start the engine...
be assured i'll be taking it to 7250rpm once in a while to ensure the engine is tight within the remaining warranty period....
funnily enough i was thinking of changing...
just had a call, they've said that the valves only are damaged and that they are going to replace the cylinder head only... so no new engine :(
I asked about the state of the pistons and apparently theres no marks at all on them. As long as it drives as good as it used to i'm not bothered...
I posted a few days ago to say my engine died on the motorway...
Anyway, just spoken with renault now and they've confirmed that the cambelt has indeed snapped (due to the auxillary belt tearing off also), and that they are going to remove the head to have a look at the damage...
They've...
I guess the only consolation out of all this is that it was me in the car at the time, and not my girlfriend who would have taken out our 2 week old son if it wasn't for the fact I had to go out in it at the last minute today... we only share 1 car now and if she'd rang me to say she'd broken...
