Dan, I will DEFINITELY take you up on that mate - girlfriend is at sheffield uni so I'm around occasionally.
I sat and read your whole build thread 2 days ago - was my main reason for this decision lol
The turbo seems to be the expensive bit.. £700 quotes so far :(
Yep - our entire company are on ubuntu desktops now. All they need is a browser, email, documents etc...
They can easily do their job with ubuntu or chrome OS
I can see your point - I was obsessed as a PC gamer, £4k rigs 6 years ago. But honestly games consoles have such a massive market...
Give it away to the end-user...
Yeah windows 8 they're trying a new business model, but IMO the whole universal OS for desktop/tablet/phone is insane and even giving it away they're struggling to sell it
It's a horrible experience on a desktop. Not bad on a tablet though
LOL well you would wouldn't you ;)
The give it away for free with a computer then rape you for £250 when you upgrade business model doesn't work any more because the OS costs more than just going and buying a cheap acer laptop, and also the upgrades are turd so no-one bothers then MS get...
Errr yeah - just the impression I've got from working in IT for 12 years lol
There is absolutely zero reason/incentive for anyone to ever upgrade a microsoft OS - every single one is just a bit worse than the last :(
Oh wow - that's awesome!!!
Only 40 mins from my house.
What's your favourite bribe for when I get stuck? Pizza/Beer/Women... lol
James is only an hour or so from me too - should be interesting haha
I figure it's not gonna hurt to get a 182 lump with low miles anyway - if the boost idea falls...
I didn't miss them out - the tyres are s**t and the driver needs more time behind a wheel hehe
What I'm looking to achieve is a car that I can go on track with but more importantly, head out at a weekend with my mates and have a laugh in.
Oh and I also want to see the suprised look on peoples...
There's no way Microsoft will still be around in 10 years - if they are it will just be xbox and office.
Their business model for OS's (bundling it free with new hardware) just doesn't work these days when people want a laptop for £250. Trying to force people to upgrade doesn't work either -...
It's about £3k worth of work - granted
But I've got better suspension, wheels, chassis, brakes, exhaust etc.. etc.. than a Mini
Granted if the Clio was standard or I was building something from scratch an MCS might be a good idea - but if I ditch the Clio now I'll have lost about £8k lol...
Yeah but that was kinda my point - it'd be nuts to go to an MCS they weigh so much and have so little power to start with
I think with 250bhp and a diff the Clio will be an absolute giggle-machine lol
LOL they don't know that it's only a dual carriageway if the two carriages are seperated by a barrier or grass section
2 lanes going in each direction seperated by just white lines isn't a dual carriageway and is still a 60mph zone.
1 lane going in each direction seperated by a barrier or...
I can't believe that's even being brought up. Heavy barge things they are with a horrid image.
Standard mini cooper-s of my mates gets DESTROYED by my Clio as it is
Not for me I'm afraid
It was one of the things I've been thinking about all year but they're too big, too heavy and too...
What's an MCS?
I'm just working out the finances now but I'm 90% sure I could do it all for about £2500 - maybe even £2k if the right 2nd hand/refurb parts came up - 6 months is enough time to be patient and wait for bargains
Then the Jenveys with carbon air box, filter, linkage etc.. must...
I think what I'm gonna do is insure the Clio today, MOT it in a couple of weeks and stick some tax on it
So I can play about this summer
But instead of throwing £500 at a cambelt/dephaser etc.. on my 120k engine I'm gonna buy a 182 lump
That'll have the inlets and everything back on it -...
I am seriously SERIOUSLY leaning towards selling my ITB kit and going boost. The manifold/downpipe/turbo would cost less than I could get for my bodies I think... then it's just boost pipes and intercooler and remap
I could buy a 182 lump, do the dephaser/cambelt myself and fit a megane...
Don't be daft
How would they even be able to police that
You could be driving to a mates in Devon and tell the police he was fitting your new brake pads for you lol
Only to an MOT station or to a registered garage and only when the car is booked in before you drive with no unecessary...
Garage will... but as soon as you receive a failure you're on the road illegally as you have been notified the car isn't road legal
The only place you can drive it legally is a garage
It's just one of those things - you'd have to be REALLY unlucky to get pulled over on your way home, but...
Where do people buy these setups from?
I really like the way michael woodford motorsport did it - 197 head to lower compression with a 197 inlet manifold... very nice solution but 197 engines are £1500, then I'd need to get my bottom end rebuilt or buy a low mileage 182/172 bottom end...
I don't really want to do a turbo build with cheap ebay bits though, would rather have ally radiator, intercooler etc.. tidy looking boost pipes
Plus I'd need to buy inlet manifolds again and I'm currently running a 182 manifold so my exhaust wouldn't mate up etc... :(
LOL I'm sat on about £13k of clio at the moment - I'm just not sure throwing another £4k at building a boosted engine is the most sensible thing
It would be cheaper to sell up I think and build a boosted 106 like my mate has just done
To be fair I should just get the damn thing back on track...
Check with DVLA/Gov.uk sites - you can't drive it home if it fails. You can only drive to a pre-arranged garage for repairs
Kinda sucks if you want to do the work yourself
I've never used TDF. But I've seen enough pissed off ex-customers and really shoddy work to know I never would.
I've never used BTM. But I've hung around with Fred and seen his work on friends cars enough to know I would any day of the week.
I don't see why you can't have an opinion about...
No limit but the car has to be booked in before hand so if you get stopped the police can ring the center
It has to be insured. Oh and if it fails you're technically not allowed to drive it home. If it passes I suggest you go directly to the nearest post office and tax it lol
Sided calipers?? WTF
If this was my wilwoods I'd just seal some bolts into the holes and flip them over as you never need the bottom set of bleed nipples.
I have to agree with what some others have said - it might be an awesome brake setup but I doubt it's worth the hassle over a set of...
I've cut the inner skin out of my bonnet. It was an arse to do and it's a bit dented now but I've got room for 120mm trumpets and no rubbing at all, so I'm happy :D
