Looking absolutely spot on :)
Where I have to open the bonnet reasonably frequently on the Vee (it being the "boot" where I keep a booster seat for my kids), I'm paranoid about pushing too hard when shutting it. It really shouldn't be that easy to damage your car ... but unfortunately it...
On a Mk2 it's every 12k miles or 2 years which ever is sooner. Don't know about the cambelt ... would suspect 60 or 72k miles or five years.
What's more the service costs are typically less than a 172!
Never heard of anybody being able to retro fit the shift light. I have heard it said that whilst the shape is there on the mask, there isn't a light beneath it, and unless the ECUs are different (and I don't think they are) I assume that something must be physically different to disable the...
My experience is the same as your's John. If you leave them in Auto mode when it's not raining, they need to be reminded by toggling off and on when it next does ... then they work fine. Must admit I've had auto wipers on other cars and the Renault ones are by far the best :approve:
I've got one of Argos' cheapest ... Sagem. Fine until you turn the subtitles on ... at which point it starts crashing :( At first I thought it was a dodgy power supply and so I got a replacement ... but it's not any better. Can't be arsed to change it tho' ...
#2 ... think some other Mk1 owners have had these symptons following replacement of coils after they'd failed. The fix was not nice from memory ... new computer!?
... with roof bars on  this evening. Motorway was unexpectedly busy for gone 7 o'clock too. Couldn't see a sticker in the darkness, but we glanced at each other as I went by.
Tho' of course the Mk1 172's gear knob is just a plain metal ball with no writing on it. Hence you can have as many gears as you want ;)
V6 ball has the gear positions engraved in the top.
Definitely less time than that ... can be up to temp on the water gauge within 10 minutes ... and that's with me tickling it along since I don't rag it until it's well warmed up.
My new challenge for the day - discovered that my reversing lights aren't coming on :(
Well ... when I first heard the rumours several months back ... my immediate thought was "very saleable chunk of land in Portsmouth with good access up the Eastern Rd". Reckon between the franchise change, and the value of the site, it wouldnt have been hard to convince the owners of Liningtons.
LOL ... that was when the garage was still being finished and was basically empty. Since then Ive painted the walls and floor, put up cupboards and a work surface, and then filled it up with tools, paint, bikes etc.. Still loads of room for the Vee tho :D Made sure that there was a new loft...
I do mostly local journeys with about 15 miles on the motorway on work days. Ive managed 4.5k miles over 6 months. Currently averaging 23.5 MPG. On longer journeys it runs at around 26 MPG.
But freaking Elephant penalize you for accidents even if it wasnt your fault. 3rd party bumped me from behind in traffic ... fully settled with full responsibility accepted by 3rd party. Elephant (or Admiral) wanted over £100 more as a result!!! Muppets!!
Ahhhh ... leant it to my younger brother Mark earlier today!
(Tho of course we all know the reality is that Mark is ACTUALLY OLDER THAN ME ... ha ha ha ha)
