mrk172 stuff/shift light

hi got the 172 mrk1 , it has a steel bonnet and no shift light, anyway i can get the shif light on, i have the sign on the clocks but i dont light

also i have no manual so i cant tell what alarm i have as id ont think mien is working, will renault uk know and are they warented

Ive got a mk2 but this may help you, if you hold down the stalk button down, the one that toggles the mpg/petrol remaining vdu. While holding it turn the car on. release it a few seconds after the car has started. The dash should start doing a dance with dials going up and down, some sort of diagnostic test. You need to see if the shift light illuminates, its the green gear stick. It may be that the car doesnt support the light or the light has blown(unlikely).

Never heard of anybody being able to retro fit the shift light. I have heard it said that whilst the shape is there on the mask, there isn't a light beneath it, and unless the ECUs are different (and I don't think they are) I assume that something must be physically different to disable the function.

All said and done I never noticed the lack of light in my alloy bonnet but not shift light Mk1. No need for a light to tell me I'm approaching the limiter given (a) a rev counter and (b) an engine screaming in my lug holes. My Vee has got a light, but when really pushing it I barely notice the light coming on since I'm more focussed on the road and change at the right time (spot on according to my digital camera footage) by ear.

Anyhow give optical's suggestion a go since it's a good one ... and many would be interested in the results :approve:
