the clicking could be the mechanism that automatically cancels the indicators. Seeing as its two clicks, that would be my best guess. Nothing to worry about if it is.

It seems to me that your alternator could be at fault. Seeing as your battery light and stop light was on at the same time. Check the belt for tightness for a start. I believe the alternator belt runs the power steering pump on the 172 (unless it has electric power steering).

there is a relay somewhere under the passenger footwell iirc. I can hear it click everytime the wipers turn on. Can you still hear a click?
