    brake bleed, which one?

must admit that i haven't used it on the Clio's brakes yet but i'm a convert to the Easibleed - the two man method can be a proper nause and doesn't always work well whereas the Easibleed has been a doddle in my experience. it'll also help you to minimise fluid wasteage.

    The best performance road tyres???

yep - don't think you're going to find one that's better than all others in every area. just out of interest, EVO ran a tyre test recently and rated the Eagle Assymetric top although i've not been able to find them listed in 16" - ? IIRC the Verdestein was second, then the Contisport 3. if...

    Toyo R888's

don't know how they compare with the 888s but i've used medium/soft compound Yokos and think they're a waste of time on a road car - you simply can't get them up to working temperature on the road and they've got less grip than a good road tyre until they are up to temp (in my limited experience).

For all you FWD handles better than RWD

it's an apples and oranges comparison IMO; would have been a different outcome had the track been wet though.

    road trip across europe

can't comment about car insurance but you want to ensure that you've got a EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) before you go and, if it helps, Insure&Go (health insurance) insured a mate and I for the 'ring within the confines of one of their standard policies. it was cheap (£15 from memory)...

Why are cup splitters so expensive/overpriced?

£150 yesterday. at this rate, they'll be £500 by the end of the year

Why are cup splitters so expensive/overpriced?

£150 is obscene, though, for a strip of plastic genuine parts pricing seems completely random sometimes. some stuff seems reasonably priced and then you get parts like this^

    which panel filter?

remove the standard element from the box to see if that makes any difference to performance or noise - then you'll have some idea of the most that you can expect. i've not tried this myself and would have thought it might be a little noisier but would be surprised if it made any difference to...

    Gearbox failure

aye - cheers for the thought but the deed is done now; picking it up tomorrow this place (Gloucester Road Gearboxes) are charging £300 labour but then i guess that may be at a reduced rate as i've had one of their boxes too - ? book time for removal is 7 hours according to the search...

Taking a 172 on track... worth upgrading anything?

not been out on track in mine yet but have a reasonable amount of track experience and am looking forward to getting on again. general concensus appears to be that they're well up to the job in standard trim - there are one or two on here who have racked up an impressive number of track days...

172, anyone know where peak torque lies?

according to the blurb in the back of EVO it's 148lb/ft at 5400 in the 172 and the same in the 182 but at 5250

"Clicking" from rear wheel on cornering....?

have you got any stones caught in the outer edge of the tyre tread? otherwise, would have to guess it's related to the wheel bearing/hub/disc - is it consistent with wheel speed?

    182 Trophy, or 197 cup.

help the OP out and tell him why (ed. at Roy Munson) Lee - admittedly, i've not driven either and (in hindsight) can appreciate that the brakes will also have evolved. the trophy's won't be inadequate by comparison though. no offence to the OP but this isn't going anywhere - people are...

    182 Trophy, or 197 cup.

that's the bottom line for me too in all of this - they're both FWD hatches and one's (IMO) obviously much better suited to track work than the other - the trophy is considerably cheaper and considerably lighter. it's the weight thing that wins it in the end as it has a bonus effect on pretty...

    Gearbox failure

ta - i had a little look at that:) if i had a longer period of spare time available before this job, i'd have considered the DIY approach - :dapprove: just out of interest, the cheapest used box i could find over the x-mas break was £400 (although they must be around for far less than...

    Gearbox failure

^thanks for the kind offer chap – appreciated. if it behaves itself for a little while, i could be doing with a spare key - can you pick those up on the cheap in exchange for a little something? anyway, the gearbox; i’ve been told that 5th gear has friction welded itself to the shaft; they...

Just got back after been pulled..

the 6pts/£250 thing seems odd but (^likewise) you'd have known about it if they thought you were taking the mickey with your speed. i love these 'pulled over by the police' threads; it's as if you all think you've just escaped from a brush with death or something!lol

    1*2 insurance

on the subject of Cups being written off at this time of year, i was using the 247spares online search just before x-mas and it said they had access to 20 172 Cups being broken; i checked again just after x-mas and the number had jumped to 42!:D

    almost like "brake failure"

^that's another symptom of sticking handbrake mechanisms/rear calipers. also, it'd be worth bleeding the brakes and renewing the fluid before condemning the master cylinder (they're a b*gger to get at on these too:( ).
