I had enough time after work today to get one of the front Koni’s on.
The front calipers are in need of a serious clean and greasing, which may explain my brakes stick after a few days of sitting.
What started as a small tap with a large hammer, finished with a large hit, haha
Caliper and...
Ahhh, cheers chaps!
I’ve not bought the brackets yet, so may change plans now then.
I’ve fired an email to PMS and Max at MS, but if @Porl sells the brackets that are easier to machine for, that may be a better route to go down.
Those of you running the brembo 4 pots from a 197/225, where did you get your calipers machined to run 280mm discs?
I’m currently weighing up the 300mm/280mm setup and leaning towards the 280mm.
From what I’ve read, 5mm needs to be taken off the mounting points on the calipers and the...
Thank you mate (y)
Yeah, you’ve confirmed my thoughts on the brembos. The 300mm setup looks fantastic but it’s a big trade off for the weights/spacer hassle.
Are you running the standard master cylinder or a 197/200 with the Brembos?
Managed to get the lights, wings and bonnet aligned after work today.
What a ballache that bonnet is to aligned! It’s not 100% but it’s far better than it was.
Excuse the terrible photo.
The postie dropped a few bits off today too.
I’ll be getting stuck into cleaning the brembos this weekend...
I’ve got the exact same issue mate.
The passenger window goes up fine with the passenger side switch, but using the drivers switch feels like the motor is about to die as it’s that slow.
I read somewhere on here that it’s normal and just down to how they are wired. Not sure how much truth...
The side skirt are pretty easy to remove, you’ll need to drill out the rivets though.
At the front of the skirt, by the front wheel, you’ll see a hex head self tapper that goes into the skirt. Unscrew this. Mine was a right git to remove so I drilled it out.
I’ve tried to show it here, circled...
Thanks Frayz(y)
Yeah, that’s what I’m currently leaning to if I’m honest. The 300mm set up looks good and it’s an easy set up to do right out the box as you don’t have to machine the calipers. It’s a tight fit though with millimetres to spare and you’ve got the pain of having to move wheel...
Just a quick update.
Got the bumper mounts coated with a couple of coats of Bilt Hamber Dynax UB in between work breaks.
I gave the headlights a quick buff and seal with Gtech C4. I will need to re do these again in the summer, but for the time being, they will do.
Managed to get the...
In between the snow and rain, we have had a few ok days so I got a few coats of satin black down over the primer.
Managed to bend the passenger bumper bracket back into shape too.
I’ve also managed to get myself a set of cheap Megane 225 brembo’s. They need a refurb but I’d rather get a...
That’s a decent result with 888’s on. 10db is going to be very noticeable, I’m assuming with the 888’s off you’ll be able to knock another couple of db’s off?
Good to hear that it it still feels like a Clio, just a little more grown up.
Another thing to add to the list of stuff I’ve read on...
Brilliant progress on this as always mate.
The amount of work on that sound deadening is impressive. How long do you reckon it's taken?
How does it feel on your Dawn Raids now? I hope you've managed to keep a bit of noise and French-ness for those weekend runs and yet still have it refined...
I also hit the front crash bar with some hydrate 80 to seal the various dings and scrapes.
A quick question for the folk that follow this build thread. What are your bumper/wing mounts like?
My drivers side headlight was never fully secured as the bracket that I’ve been treating was bent. I...
So the Dremel was on its last legs, so it was time to buy a grinder. Picked up a cheapo one from B&Q and started again after seeing the results from it
Passengers side.
Pretty much all the surface rust came off and after another quick hit of Deox gel, it was ready for Hydrate 80...
Forgot to take an after pic, but here’s it is with Hydrate 80 on.
You can see the state of the sill in this pic. I’m full expecting this to be cut and a new panel welded in whilst its in the body shop.
So tomorrow I’ll get the bumper mount primered, ready for a coat of satin black paint on...
I had a slight change of plans today. Originally I wanted to get the bumper fitted, free off the brakes and go for a drive.
Instead, I put the front on jack stands and pulled it all apart
I started on the passenger side first. I’ll get round the the drivers side tomorrow.
The...
With the arches drying and the car looking fairly tidy inside, it was back around to the engine to tidy a few things.
I replace the rubber o rings on the MAF sensor as mine were awful. I also fitted the new AC dryer and refreshed all the AC o rings I could see at the front of the car.
I...
Work on the Clio halted for a week or so since my last update due to work. But as it’s Easter this week, it’s a long weekend, so I’m aiming to finish it and get it out for a run on Sunday/Monday.
Got the bulk of the last little jobs done today.
I got the foam back in underneath the carpet and...
I’ve not turned my AC on yet as I got the system purged of all gas prior to fitting the new rad etc.
I’ll give it a try this weekend though to see if it’ll kick the fan into life.
I’ve heard this way is pretty decent actually. Not that I’ve tired it but I’ll have a go if a good run doesn’t sort...
Cheers Louis, I’ll take it out this weekend once it’s all back together and try that way.
it’s not a huge amount of air but enough to hear when you squeeze the top hose.
I take it your fan never comes on whilst idling unless it’s proper hot out?
Does anyone have an idiots guide to bleeding the coolant?
I’ve just refreshed my coolant pipes/rad/thermostat and went to bleed it today.
I removed the expansion tank cap, undid the bleed screw by the thermostat housing and let the air escape until coolant was flowing out with no bubbles. The...
You’re a brave man mentioning that, haha. You say the word ‘Finance’ on other forums and there’s a mob outside your house with pitchforks within the hour:oops:
It’s bang on the money though as it’s Always the exact same mods on the £300 a month Golf R’s.
Not that I’m knocking it as it works for...
It harks back to the Max Power era I suppose which is certainly marmite.
Not my cup of tea but I’d rather see this and the effort the fella has put in, over the usual shite that you see these days which seems to be air, big wheels and a pop and bang remap on a VAG hatch.
That Berlingo V6 would...
I really like this, Good to see you using it properly too!
Ill be interested in how the Fulcrum cage looks. I’ve seen a few online and they do look good. Is it being welded in or just having the boxes welded in and then bolted?
Top marks for Nukeproof’s too, I thought I recognised your name...
Managed to get a few more bits done today.
Changed the thermostat first and foremost. There was nothing wrong with the old one but it made sense to swap it out as all other parts of the cooling system were new.
I was going to change the upper gearbox mount but I didn’t have a deep 18mm...
