137699, now THAT'S the kind of genius I'm after!
Did the new head unit improve the sound somewhat before you changed the rear speakers? (which obviously did improve it!)
Thanks for giving me the eBay idea though. Just a quick look and I've already seen some cheap stuff provided I decide 2nd...
I asked a salesman at Renault a few months ago if it made any difference using 95ron in a 172 as the manual recommends 98ron. He said it wouldn't really make any difference.
After using ASDA petrol for months, I then went back to Optimax for a full tank just for comparison and I really noticed...
They ran a test on Fifth Gear. The otimax produced better power output and torque than with BP Ultimate.
Tesco have brought out a 99RON petrol but it's only availible at selected garages, none of which are in the north so I can't tell you if it's any good or not.
Damn monopoly merchants! Well there's two 6-disc changers on eBay for £50 +P&P with 2 days still to go. I reckon they're looking at £70 final price. I could pay not much more and get a 10 disc changer with my profits. The head units are getting a bit of cash too, tho they look a bit more...
OK that's good to hear about the fascia adapter. What a load of rubbish about the disc changer though! Is there no way around it?
//goes to check how much I could sell disc changer for on eBay :D
Unfortunately 172's are selling for less than list price in recent months. I advertised mine on autotrader a few months ago at list price and didn't get a single phone call! (apart from those fking telesales people) I'd already bought a cheap punto but had to sell it cos I couldn't sell my...
mine's a phase 2.
Thanks MattW, that sounds right. The disc changer in mine is under the front passenger seat. So definitely no sub with the standard head unit. Sounds like a new head unit would be a good place to start then.
Clio-lane, is "cardboard-audio" a way of saying unbranded or is...
When the disc changer is fitted as standard, it is mounted on a rack stylee thing under the front passenger seat. I presume the cable goes under the carpet.
I fitted an aftermarket disc changer in my last renault. I ran the leads down the side of the car from the boot under the plastic lip...
You make me sick! pff :P I think I just bought mine at exactly the wrong time. I paid a bit extra as the dealer had a red one so I escaped hassle of looking and then selling my own car. But the cheap 182 euro imports started just after I got it which crashed the price of mine.
I think I'm getting the same thing. It sound like something's loose. It seems to be more under braking or on a downhill slope and mostly when going over slight bumps. I can only hear it when I turn the stereo and fans off but it is worrying me. My warranty runs out in April and I'm paranoid...
Hmm very interesting indeed. Can you give me a link where I can fill out a form or send my full details for an official quote please? I'm probably going to keep my car standard purely to keep premiums to a minimum.
I've got the renault colour satnav in my car. Anyone know if it's possible to hook up a DVD player to the screen or is the screen quality too poor for playing DVD's?
Quote for April:
24 years old
2003 172
No points, 1 claim (feb 2004)
3 years NCD
£810 for 12 months
£690 for 10 months accelerator
Both from elephant.co.uk. I'm with them and I expect my renewal notice to be slightly less than these quotes. I paid ~£940 last year. I'm going for the 10 month...
I've got the standard 4x40W renault head unit and speaker set up in my 172. When I bought the car I thought, "great, higher spec audio, I won't have to upgrade" but I've been disappointed by it. At low volumes there is no real base. It improves when you turn it up loud and the handling at...
I had a custom s/s twin exit from cat back done on my old Megane. It was made and fitted by approved Powerflow garage for £400. A single exit would have been £250.
I was so happy with the job, the garage deserves a mention. It was Top Gear in Burnley.
I've got Pirelli P-Zero Nero 195/45/16 on mine. They're superb in the dry but can be a bit too twitchy in the wet sometimes. I've done 13k miles on this set and am about half way through them. (reasonable amount of motorway use tho) The thing that is best about pirelli's is how predictable...
I bought my 2003 172 with satnav fitted when it was a 15 months old from a Renault dealer for £11000, it had 16k miles on the clock. It's coming up for 3 years old now and it has 41k miles on the clock. I've seen one similar 172 on autotrader for £5200 and plenty more for £6000. The 3 year...
Re: Discovered my 172 is a Import
I think insurance companies are differentiating between imorts and UK cars less nowadays. Importing is now quite a mainstream thing in response to high UK prices, but maybe 5 or more years ago an insurer had to differentiate more. A lot of imported cars...
I was under thge impression that a 172 reaches peak power about 500rpm before the limiter i.e. peak @ ~6250rpm?
I do understand tho, that things revs up to the limiter so fast in the first two gears you miss it if you blink.
I had my lst set of tyres put on by kwik-fit but they were still grollied on way too tight. I saw him use a torque-wrench but maybe he ignored the "click" and went for "if it's tight-it's right". I sheared my socket, so I'm down to one now. Apparently they came from italy and would be £30 to...
I'm 6"3. There's plenty of head room but seomtimes I have to look around the rear view mirror. The steering wheel feels too far away so I have to have the seat closer than I'd like meaning my legs a a bit cramped under the steering wheel. Oh how reach adjustment would have been so nice :(...
