Look for rust on the front subframes parents one seems to have got a bit thn again 111k in a 8 year old car or so whats to be expected.
You caught me out yep busy at work nothing else I'm a dull guy.
Some 182 seem to have had faulty calipers and slider no idea why same part as 172 also the fluids in them seem to go off quicker probably due to the nice looking but useless working wheels which don't let the brakes cool.
All hot hatches realy need brakes fluid bleeding ever 2 years maximum...
Re: Car is f**ked, please help!!

You can buy some from some motorpart place belive but why bothered it might be the same part but for the problems it causes if it fails and its not much cheaper why bother.
I like the brakes on the none Rs overservoed maybe but you could argue Rs ones arn't stunning.
Drive both hard on a back road I'd bet my brakes fade much later than a 172's ones would.
100NM on he normal cars the RS are the same from memory there a techical note about the revised torques I'll find it when my PC wants to let me do some work.
1.4 is nice engine a bit more powerful but its nothing huge 172 is a much better jump and for the moey its what I'd do phase 1 172.
1.6 is a bit quicker again but not huge more noticable when you get moving more although you can notice the better power band at lower rpm.
The Mk1 1.4 was...
Its the whole part the plastic cover the plastci cup to fit round the lower pash a a zip tie to tie it round the top of the gear know (you have to cut it when its on)

Tigthen the bolt up enough and the slackness doesn't matter. 100NM standard from memory so 150 to be doubles safe I used 110 or so and it wasn't a problem.
2200 or so were sold.
Enough have had problems the 172 full fat is much the same but with more made and they have problems the original 172 phase 1 had the problems and this was when Renault chnaged there minds about 72k servicing as it wasn't safe finantually to not tlet them be changed. aft...
I wouldn't bother for the cost.
For £3k you can have a new cambelt/clutch stronger gearbox better suspension better brakes and a stronger engine (172 conversion BTW).
If you fancied some tuning I'd go with Freds idea of cams and a remap but only worth it if you've got the IK and exhaust...
172 would be cheaper but the 5GT is a fine engine bit old but thats no problem very relaible the proble is people wack the boost up for more power without doing things properly an they blow up hence there reputation.
£1.5k for a 172 complete conversion kit is better value than a 5GTT tunned...
Ype the dealership know what there on about and don't want to have to use some of the more expensive stuff so there both cheap and skilled playing inside the rules standard but realy hry should have used it as its better but why would they care after all it won't matter for 15 years what oil its...
Not to a degree they can blaim them for realy if it was your side windows ie the one which where tinted I could well undertand them not bothering even saying the word warently with you as it would be your problem.
