They are indeed 13cm or 5.25". people have cut away the door card and fitted bigger though, so yeah it can be done.

The Gates cambelt kit is perfectly fine, its the labour side of things that needs to be done properly.

It's really not that hard. The hardest part is not dropping the screws down the top air vents!

Seriously, I recommend you let a garage fit it. Not only will it save bandwidth but they will be able to do a leak test on it afterwards.

don't use a towell to block up the pipes, air can get through. Use your hand. As has already been said several times, the noise you're hearing is commonly a loose/worn cat fitting kit.
