I would not field any costs for a faulty repair like that. The garage subcontracted the work out by choice so the cost of labour is theirs to argue over with the gearbox subcontractor.
The Clifford on the car loves to scoff the battery. At best I get 2 weeks before it drains it flat, common trait for em it seems as my 172 was the same. I have a trickle charger but the battery sits under the front luggage liner and removing that every time I wanna hook it up is a pain. The...
Whats it worth? For insurance purposes, not for sale.
Just passed the MOT, 80k, Trophy wheels and a set of Phase 2 18's, fresh paint job in original iceberg, Recaro Pole Positions and new Sablet RS steering wheel (the blue trim one). Trophy spoiler (replica).
Due belts soon on time but not...
197 cup, 70k miles.
When shifting up a gear, or lifting off the power from harder acceleration, I get a wierd "flapping" noise from the front drivers side. It happens pretty much exactly when you would expect wastegate chatter noise on a turbo car. Its coming from around the belt/driveshaft/hub...
Had mixed feedback on the plates but I like them, I know they are questionable so they're velcro mounted and I carry the normal ones in the boot (its basically all you can fit in there lol).
260 miles and no probs yet, pretty sure I wont get too much further though!
Years Driving: 22
Test Passed: Jan 1998

Total CC: A lot. Current ownership is just over 12,000.
Total Miles Driven: Probably around the cool mil'

Money Spent buying cars: Depressingly high, well into six figures...
My 197 competes with my V6 for shittest fuel economy. Both low 20's.
Ironically my modded 21 Turbo would 1)dust both of them on speed and 2)returns 30% better mpg for equivalent driving despite being heavier AND 17 / 12 years older respectively.
Also why my daily driver is a diesel Volvo
Scuttle drains blocking and wipers failing (test the wipers on a test drive even if its not raining, I did on mine and they didnt work, he fixed them before I bought)
Keyless lock button failing on the door
Exhaust flexis, listen for a blow - itll be more evident at cold start
Engine mounts...
Cleaned it for the first time after paint. Bricking it, tippy toe-ing around it like a ballet dancer fretting about finding damage.
Drove it. Which is an event in itself, and a novelty still as its only the third time out on the road, still bricking it and keeping a massive gap to cars in...
Made it to CSS :-D even got the whole car underbody sealed as well.
Its now completely filthy and at the detailing Antichrist I have no idea what to do about it lol
MOT passed Saturday after changing a rear driveshaft boot :D the hub nut was tight as you like and I snapped my breaker bar!
Took the time while I was in there with a lift to remove and free off all four track rod arms and ends and adjusty bits. Last thing you want when doing Geo is a fight...
The seats look great but also serve a purpose of actually making it viable for me to drive. I'm 6'6" with a 36" inside leg, so the OE seats make the seating position untenable for more than short drives especially without cruise. The much thinner Pole Positions mounted right back against the...
One fog light and trim fitted
Went to fit the other fog and found that where the hooky clips go over the lip in the bumper, the fibreglass of the bumper had frayed a bit, and wouldnt hold the fog light at the top properly. It has a bolt in the bottom too, but still, wanted the light unit...
More checked off the jobs list.
Seats hoovered and fitted in. Yum. Sexy.
I went about refitting the undertrays and found that some of the old bolts had broken and previously bodged with a self tapper, so I whipped the bar off holding the broken fitting and drilled it out and put a rivnut...
I very much hope we can park my virgin, just painted silver Phase 1 next to yours and have a yin/yang moment! Took next week off to try and finish reassembling it :)
Its a right of passage, I almost broke my own nose when a rear diff refill plug cracked off suddenly under my Renault 21. Needless to say I don't double-hand-pull spanners toward my face any more
Carried on reassembling the front end today, lots of trims and stuff going back in. Put new rivnuts in to hold the big trim across the front too, with a bunch of new spire clips and stainless bolts and fir trees. Also bolted the seat runners back in too. More on the seats later... i'm a 6'6"...
Trying to get it done for CSS at the end of the month. I want some use out of it this year before the winter closes in, i'll probably tackle the cambelt service while the weather sucks, its due on time soon. The clutch and water pump have been done though so might have a bash at doing it with...
Yukky brake discs from standing around resolved with a good old flap-disc-ing
Refitted inner arch liners and stuff and put the first proper wheel on as that corner was sorted (I think!)
More tinkering tomorrow. Only got a few hours today as I picked up a free Nissan Micra (ewww) first...
I'll do a thread on the 21 when I get around to it. I have a 197 cup too that I should post about!
Teaser, from 2.5km up in the Swiss Alps in 2016, one of my fave pics of the car. How it didnt melt down I will never know, the air was so thin I was well down on power and reduced cooling meant...
This is something I read somewhere a while ago, and saved it to a notepad file, so credit to whoever wrote it, not me. If I recall correctly this was written some 12 or 13 years ago.

By no means is the 5k kick the result of any mechanical/electronic chance within the engine system, whether...
Gratuitous wheel pics
I sometimes read it back myself just because I can't believe I actually got away with building it. Waited 10 years to build, spent over 3 years building it.
21 Turbo Quadra, 4wd, one of 146 made in RHD and one of the 20-ish surviving ones. Rescued it from a scrap yard...

I couldnt afford it and I didnt have time for it. So. I bought it anyway... I've just picked it up after a marathon 2-day round trip (from Coventry to Aberdeen and back) from being...
I took my Renault 9 Turbo off the road when my daughter was brewing, with the intent to restore it.
She's 13 in October.
I havent even started on it yet.
